It's easy to take on too much at once. Prioritize your tasks and break them into manageable chunks. Focus on quality over quantity to ensure you’re absorbing and applying what you learn effectively.

Interns often feel like they need to perform, however, in my opinion the goal of an internship is to learn. It's the role of both the employer and the intern to suggest regular moments to give and receive feedback. These moments are not just valuable for the intern, but also for the employer. Feedback works both ways. I always try to schedule short weekly reflections and a longer monthly reflection with my interns. In the weekly reflections we focus on their own development, while in the monthly reflections we take a broader view. Here, we also see what I can do better as an employer and where we can improve as a company.

Don't wait until the end to get input on your performance. Regularly ask for feedback from your mentors and peers to understand where you excel and where you can improve. It helps you grow and adapt continuously.

Participate in discussions, forums, and group activities. Active engagement enhances your learning experience and helps you build a network with other learners and professionals in your field.

Make the most of the resources provided, including readings, videos, and tools. Don't hesitate to explore additional materials like online articles, webinars, or courses to deepen your understanding.

Most of the interns I've had worked online. We rarely (or never) met in person. In such internships, it's especially important that as an intern you feel it's OK to ask questions. I always tell my interns that they can't ask too many questions, though even then they are usually not comfortable doing so. To make it easier for them, I like to schedule a short timeslot at the end or beginning of each work day where they have the opportunity to share how the day went and whether they have any questions.
