The LinkedIn article is incorrect and misleading. Personas give behavioral data on your targeted segments based on the results of previous Qualitative Research (Field Studies, Interviews, Observations), and other Qual data previously gathered, analyzed then synthesized by the UX Researcher. You need actual data to source your personas, so these steps aren't simultaneous as the article implies wrongly. Feedback still is, however, expected as part of the previous Qual studies. You can add demographics if you want, but they're not as important to UX (as they're to Marketing). Your personas' data should be combined with Quantitative data according to the questions at hand. Quantitative tells "who". Your Qualitative Reseach tells "why".

An good example of using quantitative data in a customer support context is when you look into your customer relationship management (CRM) application to look at the demographics of users who utilize your voice channel (i.e. call-ins) versus those who use your digital channel (i.e. chatbot or service portal) to get the help they need. This gives you insight into what different groups of users prefer, perhaps by age or digital dexterity, but it does not tell you why they prefer one channel over the other. To deepen your understanding of these user personas, you interview a select few from these groups to learn what's driving them to their preferred channels. This is the qualitative data. You'd be surprised with what you can learn!

Everyone talks analyzing feedback but very few know "how" to. - One has to realize that feedback needs to be collected from as many channels as possible. The more diverse they are, the better it is for you to get a 360 degree picture - Also, understand that not all feedbacks are equally weighted, some are to be considered more critical & sensitive than others. A corny & simple example would be: Email the CEO of FedEx to tell how outrageous they are when levying the customs duty amounts and their inability to tag couriers properly (FYI - I did that when I used to work in UK and they changed their entire tagging policy within a matter of weeks)

My strategy is as follows, open your mind ear and eyes and absorb the essence, which would lead you to the obvious key, this fits like a glove. Now lot go of it all and find a way to surprise, this is when you really get deep into the subject, and perhaps discover new things. This is where the magic truly happens.

Los usuarios no son un ente estático que siempre necesita lo mismo o que no evoluciona en sus necesidades. Por eso es fundamental estar siempre cerca de ellos y hacer investigación continua. Lo que un usuario necesita hoy no es lo mismo que necesitará mañana. Si te quedas con el resultado de un research como una foto fija, tus usuarios evolucionarán más rápido que tu producto y pronto estarás desactualizado y ya no serás atractivo para ellos. Aprende a evolucionar con tus usuarios y conseguirás fidelizarlos.

I would like to add just one thing to all the contributions here. I don't believe user personas help that much. They're mostly built over demographics and vague characteristics. User Experience should be built and improved by creating solutions for real problems - no matter how small they are. And sometimes two different people included in the same user persona can have completely different issues. We should ask more questions...
