There is a significant difference between plan for the worst and expect a surprise. For example, I was producing a short film where a $159K camera quit working properly. I always tell everyone to expect a surprise. We wouldn't know what it was until it got there. Because we expected it, nobody panicked. I listened to input from everyone and we discovered that there was an identical camera in town. We called and managed to borrow it for the day. We got our shots. We also talked about what caused the problem to begin with. It turns out that someone had dropped the camera. The lessons? Expect a surprise and don't panic. Work together to find a solution and determine the cause so that it doesn't get repeated. No blame. Own it.

Encourage a culture of continuous improvement where failures are seen as opportunities to grow and learn. Blaming or singling out individuals from the team doesn't help anyone. Instead, would recommend documenting the errors and adding them to the SOP document for the team to refer before every shoot and avoid repeating the errors.

Ive witnessed filmmakers pour their hear and soul into a project, go to get distribution only to find out they didn't do what was needed for a proper chain of title. Maybe they didn't budget correctly or didnt work off a shot list so they lacked coverage. These thing cost them not only time and money but affects the set in many other ways. GOOD NEWS - these things are lessons that when learned from make us better next time! I would also say finish the project as best you can even if it's not your best. That is something to be proud of. Knowing you didn't quit when things got difficult is huge. I love people that don't give up. I want those type on my team.
