Being from a AEC background, I can clearly apprehend the usefulness of a CAD model in the field of Aerospace Engineering. One can visualise, analyse, conduct realtime simulation and have a visually appealing presentation of the prototype without even having to construct it in real life. It will dramatically increase the conceptual as well as development process.

CAD modeling can be used to explore unconventional aerodynamic concepts that challenge or deviate from the conventional norms and assumptions of aerodynamics, such as blended wing body (BWB) designs, which integrate the wings and fuselage into a single continuous surface for improved aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. Winglets, small vertical extensions at the tips of the wings, reduce vortex drag and increase lift-to-drag ratios. Scramjets are a type of jet engine that can operate at supersonic speeds without moving parts or a compressor. Additionally, morphing wings can change their shape and configuration in response to different flight conditions, such as speed, altitude, and maneuverability. Early in my undergrad, one of our favourite ways to 'waste time' involved tossing an abstract model into our cheap aerodyn sims and seeing how well it fared in a wide array of wind conditions. We didn't know it then, but the lessons we learned laughing at the 'flight readiness' of a turtle in the slipstream of an orange would go on to influence the chassis of multiple project robots that needed to navigate fiery mazes across rigid terrain. These lessons were seemingly trivial, but we wouldn't have incorporated perpendicular airflow testing as soon as we did without them.
