How can data analytics improve employee engagement during a crisis?

I think as data analysts, it can be easy to jump to "let's do a survey, let's run these numbers" ... without realizing that sometimes the best way to assess engagement is just to TALK to your employees, 1 on 1, nothing beats finding out issues from the root source directly (plus you might find that employees are a lot more comfortable talking to an actual human rather than a form).

The consistent trend I've noticed is that people appreciate personalized communication, wellness programs, and personalized recognition. Each employee or groups of employees are unique. While there are needs shared by most employees to feel engaged, it is important to identify differences in experience and motivators. What motivates an engineer can be different compared to what motivates a sales person.

Segmentation of your employees will help you to do some predictive analysis also. For example, you can segment the employees that are about to leave and you can take some action.

I've discovered that it's beneficial when the end-user acknowledges their role in the decision-making process of feedback surveys. Do not over think it. A good open meeting will drive change much further than a fancy ppt or dashboard. People value time and being heard not a fancy new tool that you need to learn and manage

Humanity , being at the core , I call them Triple Es (Engage, Empathize and Establish) - 1. Go out of your way to engage the employee, through all the listed measures viz. Segmentation, sentiment analysis etc. 2. Once the employee is engaged be empathetic to their issues. Be genuine and identify real solutions to their problems. 3. The last step is to establish the employee's faith in the capability institution to which the employee belongs, remediate their crisis.

Finally, by using data analytics to understand and address employee needs, tailor communication, support well-being, adapt to new working models, predict future challenges, build transparency, and focus on training and development, organizations can significantly improve employee engagement during a crisis. One more point to add is to enable employee journey mapping. Capturing employee touch-points at each area of work from onboarding onwards will help track the employee engagement and identify areas for improvement. This can be used for employee training, performance review, exit feedback, etc.
