In my experience, employee surveys provide feedback and recognition of achievements that are so critical for building a better organization by helping individuals better themselves or feel acknowledge in their hard work to better themselves and their organization. There is also the more obscure benefit of being able to identify any shifts the organization may need to make in policies to improve the environment for all members.

Research literature comprises scientifically validated surveys. Instead of making up questions and their wordings, the designer of the survey can rely on them to make their life easier.
