How can podcasting support lecturers' professional development and collaboration?

I've been podcasting for well over a year now and believe it is of tremendous value to any teacher or lecturer to think of themselves as being a moderator (or part time panelist) of conversations going on in the world globally all the time. If we can truly immerse ourselves in the present moment (which especially live podcasting often forces us to), we can tap into a collaborative creative force which naturally emerges between podcast participants. I experienced this originally on stage at various conferences and during live presentations, but the benefits of podcasting far outweigh those occasional opportunities and can provide us with a regular discipline to keep learning constantly from a global, virtual community.

One of the benefits I've found is that it flexes our communications muscles and helps us to speak the language of our target audience. For instance, in trying to explain findings from a journal paper in a podcast medium, we have no choice but to be more empathetic and choose words that are simpler yet remain accurate and effective.
