One thing I've found to be helpful is to always remember that we are constantly learning and growing. Never assume that you know all that there is to know. Part of our job is to be support for other departments and that includes sharing of knowledge, ensuring staff members are aware of standards and how to reach those goals. Therefore, we should be setting the same standards for ourselves and continue to evaluate our own knowledge.

When you use the wrong tools for the job, you're just asking for trouble. Case in point, we recently had a screw that needed an alan-wrench for tightening, BUT we had the wrong size. Instead of going to find the right one, we ended up damaging the current set-screw we have and it needs to be replaced. Always plan for the job. Always find the right tools because you don't know if it'll be a costly mistake without them.

Control plans can cover the common mistakes and it would be more robust to make the PFMEA and match it with control plan and keep both of them updated.

Use a tool for what it's made for and nothing more. Too often I see teams who try to use a single suite of tools for everything. This is usually for a good reason, such as reducing costs or simplifying onboarding, but the result is since it tries to do a little of everything, it does nothing particularly well. The result is clunky, frustrating, and quite a bit of extra work continuously happens to keep it running correctly. Instead, be critical when deciding what products you want to use and why. Do a full analysis of the tool in regards to your team's unique needs, instead of going with whatever is popular at the time. Sometimes a tool is solving a problem you can avoid completely by not using it to begin with.

Providing quality tools is also very important. Sometimes organizations due to financial savings; They provide low-quality tools. poor quality tools; They have certain problems and are not reliable. poor quality tools; It breaks down quickly; It is not easy to calibrate; It is not accurate enough. These are things that must be paid attention to. The best tools always have a high price, but they disappear slowly. are reliable. They do not need calibration soon. purpose of measuring instruments; Specifying approval or disapproval of a task. With high-quality tools, you can only work with a high reliability factor.

"Set it and forget it" doesn't exist in QA. Humans are flawed by nature and machines are flawed via the humans that design them. That's what QA is for! Any time you introduce a process change or data point, be prepared to monitor it in perpetuity and every data point requires context to understand. Not only will this perspective keep your processes simple, it also keeps your team accountable and ensures you are aware of when adjustments need to be made. If your team is finding more errors than expected in a product, this may not mean the product is degrading in quality, it may mean your team is more effective!

It's not just because of runaway reactions or bad numbers, it can lead to a dangerous situation that can get out of control quickly. Completing your rounds and consistency are so huge to making sure things run properly. If you hear something that doesn't sound right or see something wrong, SPEAK UP! Monitor your processes. Keep a close eye on what's going on at all times.

What you cannot measure, you cannot control; and in some industries, the smallest of deviations can be catastrophic both to the process itself and revenue. In diamond processing for example, quality assurance and quality control are very key to ensure that one is operating within the set metallurgical standards. A density or pressure set point that is outside the allowable limits for example could mean loss of diamonds to tailings or it could mean misplacement of tailings material to concentrate and recovery streams causing process bottlenecks. Most companies monitor and measure their processes but the failure comes when we fail to analyze the data and to assign a cause for the failure. The best monitor and measuring system according to me must be an automated system. Incorrect recording of measurement will create bigger issues and we will work on fixing/correcting things that does not require it.

One thing that I have found really helpful in my experience in quality and in operations is the usage of SOP's. (Safe Operating Procedures) because they usually contain a plethora of knowledge and generalized troubleshooting tips. Keeping good notes is vital as well. Hand-written in a notebook or even using tools like OneNote, it's a huge win-win. When you're doing your training, ask the question "What are the most common trouble areas and how do I fix them?" WRITE IT DOWN! When trouble arises and you fix a problem, write down what you did because it might come in handy some day.

It's important to do a proper root cause analysis using the Fish bone/ Ishikawa diagram will all team members involved with the problem. Focus on why the process allowed us to get it wrong, the we failed to detect the failure and why the failure was not considered during planning. It's very important to put actions in place that will deal with the root cause of your problems.

An important thing to remember is that the final corrective action isn’t always obvious, but, that doesn’t mean you wait until that solution presents itself to implement a CA. Sometimes you will need to lock down specific products or processes while you investigate. While not ideal, a temporary, heavy handed fix, like inspecting 100% of impacted product, until a better, less obtrusive solution is found is the best way to meet customer expectations while “clearing out the smoke”.

Always ask why and ask it over and over. Be prepared to spend a lot of time pursuing this. You can build robust data models to do a lot of the heavy lifting for you, but it will require a human touch to fully understand the context around each error, how to solve it, and assess the correction's effectiveness. The documentation of "why" we make each correction and how we went about resolving it is priceless. Many teams rely on tribal knowledge to fix and prevent problems and view documentation as superfluous at best. Even though it's boring, take the time to write it down and explain it to your peers.

A veces realizamos tareas que son repetitivas y que tener experiencia operativa de algo que se ha realizado en el pasado nos puede ayudar a detectar, antes de hacer nuestro trabajo de inspección, posibles puntos críticos o errores que se han cometido en el pasado y así evitamos al máximo errores recurrentes y problemas que en algún momento alguien ya había detectado.

Algo muy común en las empresas es que calidad y manufactura trabajan con visiones del proceso totalmente distintas, de esta forma: calidad vela por tener productos que cumplan estándares, mientras producción/manufactura velan por alta cantidad en poco tiempo. Es por ello, que es necesario que los líderes de producción entiendan la importancia del cumplimiento de atributos de calidad e interpretación de quejas de clientes, y que calidad entienda la importancia de la resolución de problemas de calidad que pueden afectar la productividad en un período de tiempo prudente. Ser ágiles en tomas de decisiones y velar siempre por el bienestar del lugar de trabajo y los clientes/consumidores.

Everything you do as a quality Specialist must be ignited by the intention/role of supporting these department to perform better.

I'm sorry, I disagree with this post. The best way to avoid common QC and Insp. issues is automation. Automize your process, do your FMEA, tackle your problem's root cause and learn from previous mistakes. "BUT HOW??", you ask. I say: Simple. Work Instructions (WIs), Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs), Quality Alerts (QAlert). It doesn't matter what process you are supervising. From Coding to Manufacturing, services or Governamental, you STANDARDIZE. With those, you don't even need training! Work Instructions are there at the work stations, they won't miss it. Now, it's up to you to require them to know WHY they are checking WHAT they are checking, depends on your objectives.
