How can you build relationships with colleagues who are more experienced than you?

✅ One thing I've found helpful is to work with cross-functional teams. Once, other team members start liking your work you would be recognized internally. ✅ Seeking guidance and feedback on your work would also help in building relationship with senior folks. ✅ Share your knowledge within the company, personally I have found it very helpful and seniors start recognizing me and my work. ✅ Try to connect personally and find out if there is anything new or interesting project they are working on, you may be able to add in something valuable to your senior. ️✅ Feel free to share any of your challenging projects with a larger audience when given an opportunity, try to build a story and engage with audience.

Be open to asking for advice, when dealing with colleagues that know more than you on a particular subject. The fact that you have asked, will carry a lot of weight with them. That act of openness will bear fruit in you future interactions with them. Being open to learn and being able to get other people onboard with helping you invest in yourself and for them to work with someone that is open to learn, is mutually beneficial to all.

I find communication to be one of the best ways to align with more experienced colleagues, more often than not we approach simple issues with a complicated demeanour. A lot can be achieved by the principles of KISS & DRY in any conversation with more experience team members. I also find constructive criticism to be a crucial part of learning and trust me what may sound non-constructive in the heat of the moment or conversation, may well be the best advice received if open to all forms of feedback. At the end the business comes first; having that in mind means a lot more than anything else to most experienced colleague in an organisation.

Having changed my profession several times, I often started with little to no knowledge. Each time, I had billions of questions. Initially, I worried about overwhelming my colleagues with my inquiries, and sometimes my questions seemed stupid or obvious. However, if an answer helps you learn something new, gain a better understanding of processes, or identify mistakes, it's worth feeling momentarily foolish rather than remaining uninformed for a lifetime.

I find the best way to ask help is to approach each question showing I have done my due diligence and exhausted my own personal resources. I am trying to solve this. I did this, this and read that but I am still unable to solve this. What am I missing? I am about to start this development cycle, here are the things I have thought through. What am I not thinking about? This allows for a quick and effective exchange of what my needs are. My senior doesn't have to go as far down the rabbit hole to get to the meat of the issue. It shows that I am respective of their time and I really want to do/be better at my craft. Both of those make it easier for someone to put their own work down and work to refine the skills of a colleague.

When I opened calls, the first thing i asked is "How may I help you?" I found that this helped to open people up, and also sets the tone (i was in a time crunch and I needed to see what were the most important things to move). Once they're done, i mentally file them into one of the four quadrants (important/urgent, not important/not urgent, urgent/not important and important but not urgent). I decide which things are worthwhile activities to push, and which things i can or cannot make a decision on. Key here is to say no as much as required, and redirect as much as needed. No use hanging on to balls. Also note here that its not just imperative to offer help but to ensure that things follow through.

What I do is, I ask for a quick call where I don't start with work talks.
