Anyone in business should operate by this rule and if you are the leader you need to set the expectations for the organization. Setting expectations not only includes goals and milestones but the way and how team members operate and represent the company or product. The expectations should be easy to find for anyone approaching the company, be it employees, customers or vendors. When this is straight forth, it's easy for those who do not wish to comply to make a decision about either doing business with you or not. Management must buy in and understand these principals and manage to them

Defining your goals and objectives is foremost important before hiring people or making a team. 'Why' is important question to ask before how, what and when, so first get to know why you're doing this and understand your needs.

Building an effective private equity team involved a targeted recruitment approach. Once the needs were clear, the focus shifted to finding candidates with relevant experience, strong analytical skills, and a cultural fit with the firm's vision and values. Assessing candidates involved various methods, from interviews and tests to case studies and references, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of their abilities and suitability for the team. Transparency was crucial throughout, with clear communication about expectations, goals, and feedback mechanisms.

Pick the right person for the right job is the most difficult part a person's interest will tell you how much they will be efficient in doing a work. According to my experience hiring people who loves their work will lead to better future goals and objectives.

Beware of what you incentivize. In my role as an advisor, I have seen different monitoring and rewarding schemes. While transparency is good, you get what you call for, meaning: The team will usually work towards whatever is defined as that specific goal. In this case, goal setting and monitoring are particularly tricky, as efficiency and effectiveness are often broad terms and baked into other interdependent metrics, and measuring team performance is even more difficult than (the already challenging task) of evaluating an individual. Therefore, while clear goals are vital, make sure you stay open to adjustments and in your ways of achieving the goal.

Rewarding a team member through different sources will encourage them to do better. As they feel rewarded for their work, it will enhance their working and others will also follow them to earn a recognition.

Positive culture is one of the most underrated thing to hear but it makes a lot of difference in a long run. Maintaining a positive culture will make team members to show up their ideas, opinions and concerns about the projects.
