How can you encourage your team to participate in a mentoring program?

To encourage our team to participate in a mentoring program, we need to paint a vision of the end goal being achieved to inspire them into action and have part of the action plan include a mentoring program. First, you need to make the team feel inclusive by creating social, team-building events. This allows them the opportunity to be relaxed and communicate more openly about their goals and dreams in a more relaxed way. Then, once you have understood their goals, it is much easier to align the company’s goals with the individual’s goals. This will make the team members feel more at ease in taking on suggestions and directives and more inclined to cooperate, even if told, to attend the mentoring program.

The mentoring program is a powerful tool for career advancement, offering mentees invaluable insights for professional growth and expanded networking opportunities. What is the commitment to learning in your company? If your team member is being waterboarded with priorities, projects and deadlines, you are not going to be able to create an environment where learning is possible. If there is no time and space to learn, there is no time and space for mentoring. Learning must become built into the job, as much a priority as delivering on a client project or closing the next sale.
