How can you establish a niche area of expertise in Statistics?

In the realm of blockchain and Bitcoin, I carve my niche by mastering statistical techniques tailored for decentralised systems. Analysing transaction data, I employ advanced statistical models to uncover patterns, detect anomalies and enhance security. My expertise lies in developing statistical frameworks that address the unique challenges posed by blockchain dynamics, positioning me as a go-to authority in statistical analysis within the cryptocurrency space.

My background is in Chemical Engineering (undergrad), Tropical Medicine (MSc.), and working as a data scientist, I was trying to find ways on how to stitch these three fields together, and found out that computational statistics is the sweet spot. I re-enrolled in (MSc.) Statistics and focused heavily on how it can combine theories in Chemical Engineering, and Tropical Medicine together. I started to do projects on drug repurposing, snake bites and anything related to Neglected Tropical Diseases utilizing concepts in all these three subjects together.

To establish expertise in Statistics for Finance, apply methods like regression, time series, and correlation studies for enhanced data analysis. Use statistical models in risk assessment, portfolio optimization, and market predictions. Showcase skills in extracting insights from large datasets for accurate forecasts. Proficiency in finance-oriented software and languages (like Python) is crucial. Highlight successful applications in credit scoring, fraud detection, and customer segmentation. Stay updated on statistical advancements, demonstrating continuous learning. Showcase achievements in transforming raw data into actionable insights for informed financial decisions.

A etapa inicial e, não por acaso, a mais desafiadora de todas. As formações e carreira atual, preferências pessoais, demandas do mercado de trabalho local são fatores que contribuem para um natural deslocamento do profissional para um determinado nicho.

I have three backgrounds: chemical engineering, tropical medicine, and computational statistics. My chosen niche is the application of computational statistics in finding new drugs molecules, or repurposing old drugs, for neglected tropical diseases. It's specific enough that I focused on tropical diseases but broad enough that the techniques can still be applied in chemistry, chemical engineering, and biomedicine in general. The goal here is to be interdisciplinary, learn at most three different subjects and find a way to stitch them together.

In my experience, 2 different subjects aside from statistics, is the maximum limit, more than this would be difficult to manage, specially on retaining information. Statistics compliments almost every sciences, you can bring in your statistical toolbox to the subject of your liking: industrial statistics, medical statistics, social statistics, etc.

Be passionate about your chosen field, you can promote it by publishing research papers, attending conferences, or become a part time faculty. I am doing part time as a faculty in computer science and mathematics and I introduce concepts in tropical medicine and chemical engineering during my discussions, and how statistics and computer science compliments these subjects.
