Be open to "non-speaking" speaking opportunities. I recently made a guest appearance in the Women Who Code Mentorship Slack channel. Over an hour, their Program Coordinator shared 8-10 questions about how to confidently speak up as a woman in tech. I answered them via text messages in the group, typing and using a voice-to-text feature. Mentees were able to ask their questions, respond to my thoughts, and folks who lived in a different time zones were able to engage with the transcript after. It was a rewarding experience!

Create your personal brand online. Share content which adds value to people’s lives . Slowly but steadily your vibe will attract your tribe . Engage with people from the industry . Don’t compete but rather collaborate & you will be amazed at the results . I speak with experience.

An example I have seen is on how I began motivational speaking beyond traditional channels. I began with my mindset which is; if you want opportunities then create them. I created an online platform for my voice to be heard. Then I designed it in such a unique way across many social websites, and made all pertinent and interrelated. I went further to create a website where interested ones can visit and see more of what I do. Everyone can do the same by writing books, journals, articles, uploading videos etc that are bold, eloquent, empirical and consistent across all your platforms- on your motivational speaking. Last but not the least, create a venture that's connected to your motivational speaking to badge your professionalism.

To discover speaking opportunities outside the usual ones, make the most of the internet. First, create a professional website and improve your LinkedIn profile. Then, actively participate on social media and share your insights. Look for online gatherings, like webinars and virtual events, related to your field. Offer to speak at these events to showcase your knowledge. Join online communities and groups where you can become known as an expert in your field. Don't forget to check out platforms like TEDx, podcasts, and YouTube channels for wider exposure. The internet offers plenty of chances to find new speaking gigs.

Creating your stage is a great way to find speaking opportunities outside of the usual ones. Try to go live once a week and start to build your audience and community. Share a call to action about your public speaking business during your live session.

But, getting on these podcasts as a guest can be difficult and is often competitive. What matters is your pitch. Many public speakers get this wrong because they immediately share their speaker's reel or speaker resume - That's what everyone else is doing. Do this instead: 1. Lead with Value (Mention what you liked about their show, be honest! And leave an Apple review for bonus points.) 2. Make a Meaningful Request (Tell them why you want to be a guest and what content gap you fill.) 3. Offer Credibility (Mention who you know in common, not credentials!)

One of my favorite platforms to find podcasts to pitch is listennotes.com. You can search your industry and see the current podcasts that are ranking. When first getting started, I suggest reaching out to smaller podcast shows. You will become a better guest each time you join a podcast, so save the higher-ranking shows for later.

It's important that you always lead by building relationships first.

Use your social media so that people can find you for public engagement opportunities. Keep your profile updated and relevant to your field.

Also, it might be a good testimonial to have some extracts of your speaking online available. Either conference hosts offer such on their channels, or you could ask them for permission to share and do so yourself e.g. on Youtube or Linkedin (for snippets). A well-held speech speaks for itself!

Referrals are a tremendous way for others to engage in public engagement. It goes both ways, refer someone, and maybe someone will refer you!

Networking, networking, and more networking. When you authentically connect with others at events, it can lead to great opportunities. I have always found that the best things come out of relationships, especially if you are a true go-giver.

Training is one of the most effective ways of motivating people especially younger generation. As a music executive, I've had several opportunities to speak to series of young guys who aspire to become a musician and or record producers. If there are no bigger opportunities forthcoming for you to motivate people, create a motivation niche in your industry in form of training.
