How can you make test reports easier to understand?

Few ways: - Using BDD. - Avoid using nested steps/functions. - Meaningful (easy to understand) steps/functions. - Avoiding big/huge tests. - Club tests in meaningful suites based on functionality or pages. - Add logging. - Adding screenshots/videos. - Using graphs. - Tracking the below stats for over a period of time (maybe some tool like graphana) - Number of failure for each test - Time for each test - Flakiness - Failure reason - Failure cause - etc

It depends on whom you are sharing the reports with. If you are sharing the reports with higher management, you can include graphical data and metrics. For technical teams, reports should provide more granular or detailed information, segmented based on modules. This includes the number of test cases, the number of passed test cases, the number of failed test cases, and the number of bugs. Additionally, categorizing bugs according to resolution, severity, and priority can be helpful. Along with that, logs and recommendations should also be included

1) Report can be combination of paragraph and points for better understanding. 2) We can add links of some important bugs in the report. 3) Sometimes, adding screenshots may also help end-user understand the report better way. 4) One should stop using big sentences because things look easy to understand, when reporter writes small sentences. Try to use the words from technical dictionary, it gives better view to reporter's perspective.

If the Acceptance criteria mentioned then easy to decide either report ok ,fit and acceptable. Because we need to compare the report result and what's acceptable Range of that result. If the value mentioned in the report within the acceptable range then that's can be considered as ok.

Keept it clear, concise and to the point. 1. Any impediments to the test process must be highlighted first. 2. Cover the high level scope of test activities. Too much detail can make it less readable. 3. Put dates against important milestones like dev completion, QA sign off, UAT and go live.

Testing should be done according international standards. These standards use a terminology that is perfectly explained and understandable. If you use other (self-made tests), explain first why you do not use an international one.

One thing I have found to be useful is keeping it simple and direct. At time we try and use too many or big words and we lose the reader. Use sentences that takes the reader to your main points. Avoid unnecessary details or repetitions, which came make the report more confusing to understand.

Standardization is very crucial for account level or org level success. Every human has his own way of organizing data but the best way or rather common way of presenting comes only by standardization

A test report should be simple, clear and non ambiguous. It should contain all information an end user needs and expects to interpret the report. A test report should be reviewed and authorised before being issued.

Every end user has different expectations of test reports , so it is always better to share a sample report at the initial stage with all necessary details and get their feedback. This can avoid major reworks

Know your audience and ask yourself if the information is clear enough for the targets: if engineering, add more detail, if PM/EM, reduce detail and add impact and affected KPIs. One size doesn't fit all and test reports should help on understanding a snapshot of quality and QA efforts as well as presenting key data to make decisions and calls.

Consider not doing a report! Strive for the setup where you are working along with your developer(s) and testing happens as you build. In this case, your test report is not needed at all. They saw any issues with their own eyes and fixed them straight away:)
