How can you make your LMS course more engaging?

I ALWAYS start a new project by developing learner personas for my audience. This helped me understand who I am building for so that I can build in a way that will inspire engagement and not cause frustration. If you have a learner that will be turned off by certain kinds of interactions, you want to make sure you don't include those in your designs.

To upgrade commitment in an LMS course, consolidate intuitive components, for example, tests, surveys, and conversation discussions, to energize dynamic cooperation. Use recordings, liveliness, and infographics to take special care of various learning styles and inclinations. Execute gamification highlights like identifications, focuses, and lists of competitors to boost progress and establish a cutthroat yet spurring learning climate. Cultivate social learning through cooperative exercises, bunch ventures, and shared connections. Give valuable open doors to independent learning and investigation by offering assorted assets and permitting students to pick their learning ways.

Utilizing captivating media in our courses is essential, not only because we're accustomed to these formats, but also because they cater to various learning channels at once, such as audio and visual. However, it's the element of interactivity that truly sets a learning experience apart. While fostering direct peer interaction may not always be feasible, incorporating quizzes and real-life case studies that mirror professional scenarios can enhance engagement, especially in corporate settings like mine, where the focus lies on product training. Moreover, injecting humor into the learning process is invaluable. Aside from highlighting common mistakes, unexpected events &light-hearted moments have been shown to aid in information retention.

3 things I almost always include with directions: 1. An example of a satisfactory response 2. Helping text (e.g. sentence starters, example responses) 3. A rubric (even a simple one) Unless you're really asking truly open-ended questions, it's okay to show participants in what direction they should be headed. After all, it can be hard to get started and a sentence starter can help them to structure a response. With rubrics, the goal is to help provide scope and focus for participant responses. Even if it's a simple, single-strand rubric. (e.g. score 1- doesn't include _____ outcome, score 2- includes at least two examples, score 3- includes at least two examples with research evidence)

One thing I always recommend is to keep it simple.. don't cram in too nuch imformation which can be avoided. That is always a dilemma when you are working with an SME who wants the learner to know everything and anything. Key question to ask about the content is whether this information adds any value to the objective of the course. If not then it doesn't belong.

Consider supplementing your learning ecosystem with an LXP (Learning Experience Platform). LMSs were not created for engaging learners - they were created for compliance. There is massive value in this, but for modern day learners, a new, contemporary experience is the standard (and your LMS can still live underneath, with relevant content being surfaced in a more user-friendly way). That being said, "LXP" is still a loosely defined term in the industry; make sure you are clear on differentiators and what you are getting with any solutions you explore.
