Some ways to get started is to challenge yourself to come out of your shell. I can be an introvert, and often when attending AR events I may be the ONLY over 40 African American Woman in the room. This means that I can’t lean on familiar or cultural norms for a foundation of connection - I have to intentionally approach and engage with people who on the surface may not have much in common with me. That being said, I love AR and have hired AR testers for companies like Meta. So, digging in and also not making assumptions on who someone is could be the difference between you getting hired or bypassed for the job of your dreams. (Note: If you see me at an AR event, say hi!) 😃

Some examples of reasons to reach out are to ask for advice, offer help, or propose collaboration.

This is great advice but also don’t forget to ADD VALUE. One of the things that people miss is that industry leaders have a full mailbox of people who either want something from them or are looking to sell something to them. My advice is to not have your initial contact fit into either one of those categories. Bring something - even if its just an applause. Add value or at least appreciation for their work. Giving praise goes along way in obtaining favor and grace!

You can follow all the AR players on Linkedin from the leading companies such as Vyking, Zero10, Fittingbox (not necessarily and ask them for a quick chat, from my experience people in the AR industry are always open to exchange.
