How can you promote your expertise online without sounding salesy?

No one wants to sound like they are boasting. One of the most helpful angles I've used when wanting to promote one's expertise is to share it in the form of problem-solution advice. What is a problem you're facing? This is a solution that has worked for me or for others, maybe try that. You're seen as valuable, knowledgeable, and NOT a braggert!

The best way to show real expertise without coming across as a self centered bragger is through the use of a specific example/story that you have experienced. Explain in detail the challenges it entailed and how you used your resources and brain to successfully tackle it for both your client and organization.

First of all, if we use social media content to promote ourselves, it won't work long term. No one wants to read that type of content. Use all types of content to give to your target audience with no expectations of anything in return. Whether you use posts, videos, articles, images, or comments and replies, focus on helping your target audience rather than promoting yourself. People do business, or hire those they trust and respect, maybe even like. We also appreciate people who give us ideas, philosophies, best practices, tactics, and knowledge with no hidden agenda or expectations. My only hope from this comment is I can have a meaningful impact on at least one viewer. What's the proverb - "Give & you shall receive." Keep giving.

If you already have content somewhere else, use LinkedIn to point to it. Point to your educational course content. Link to your blog posts with summaries. Include DOIs and summaries of your published articles.

The above comments are all on point. Offering case studies and generally helpful information (e.g., tips and tricks) can not only help you connect with your target audience but enhance your positioning as an expert. But no matter what you decide to discuss, be sure to share something of yourself in the writing. People (and remember that a "company" doesn't hire you; a person does) hire people they like and trust, so be sure to show who you are to create that bond.

LinkedIn is a great platform to start with. You can type in niche keywords and connect with experts. Send in a personalized message. These collaborative articles are a great feature as well. It allows you to access valuable insights from thought leaders for free. Just, remember to engage meaningfully rather than just for the sake of it. Also, use Reddit(it's like a goldmine of nuanced needs/solutions/ challenges).

Share your knowledge. Let people know you have lived experience in specific areas & you solve problems. With my ghostwriting services, whenever I am contacted via LI, I always respond, "It's quicker for me to speak the answer, rather than type it. I am happy to give U a 20-30 minute complimentary phone or zoom call when convenient. I am available today at X, tomorrow at Y and the next day at Z (and then I list my available times/ confirm the date). At the 25 minute mark, I ask for their final question. Importantly in the complimentary call don't withhold information, be generous, share your knowledge. This I believe is how you build your credibility. You are basically making it easy for people to buy from you. You don't have to sell.
