En general en un equipo de finanzas y/o control gestión se pueden dar 4 arquetipos de roles o perfiles. 1. Perfil fuente de información: roles que diseñan y mantienen sistemas de información, elaboran modelos de datos y proveen reportes e información. 2. Perfil operacional: roles que conocen las operaciones de los negocios y su objetivo es asegurar la eficacia operacional, gestionan KPI, métricas. 3. To build your FP&A skills, certain formal education in accounting, finance, business, or economics, is a good starting point. Online training offered by specialized institutions such as Corporate Finance Institute or Wall Street Prep is also quite useful in developing specific skills such as financial modeling. Another resource is on-the-job training, where you can learn from your teammates or supervisors. Certifications such as CFA and CPA make one stand out of the crowd, while newer certifications such as FMVA and FPA-C are getting wider recognition as well. These certifications impressively showcase your specialized knowledge to the world.

Financial palnnjng and analysis in other words can be described as Financial business partner, where you will be the bridge between operations and management. You will be closely working with operational teams and understand the finacial figures and present them to management for their better understanding and for taking strategic decision on timely manner. This can be possible only with finacials skills, presentation & communication skills. For finacials skills you need to have good background education qualifications... and for communication & presentation you need experience in to business finance and technical skills like Advanced excel, Sql, Excel Macros, and use of analytical tools (like Power Bi, Analap, Tableau, R, etc.....).

Once you know what type of FP&A role you want, you need to start building the skills and knowledge that you need to be successful. This may involve taking courses, earning certifications, or gaining experience through internships or entry-level jobs. You can take courses in data analytics and financial modeling. You also earn the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. This will give you the skills and knowledge that you need to be a successful FP&A analyst with a specialization in data analytics.

Based on my review of FP&A job descriptions, FP&A roles can have one of the following specialties: -corporate FP&A: budgets and forecasts at the enterprise level -business unit FP&A: budgets and forecasts at the business unit level -strategic finance: FP&A supporting capital structure, mergers and divestitures, and capital allocation analyses -business partnership: supporting other organizational areas with decision marking. e.g. helping IT team decide ROI on new software -commercial FP&A: supporting GTM teams with reviewing customer contracts and partnerships The above list is indicative and not an exhaustive list.
