les catastrophes écologiques sont souvent décrites comme des évènements isolés car ils échappent pour la plus part aux outils de modélisation. Toutefois il faut identifier la typologie des catastrophes qui sont difficilement prédictives et les coefficients multiplicateurs. Les modèles mathématiques existent mais il y a très peu de consensus dans la lecture des matrices et très souvent les calculateurs utilisés sont spécifiques à un environnement donné; or les évènements qui s'accumulent pour donner naissance à des catastrophes ont des origines géographiques lointaines; cas des secousses sismiques induits par des déplacements de plaques tectoniques où se propagent les ondes sur des milliers de kilomètres avant d'arriver au point d'impact.
