How do you align your values with your employer's?

Através das minhas experiências, aprendi que quando nossos valores estão em sintonia com os da empresa, o engajamento e a satisfação não são apenas consequências, mas sim a base para uma colaboração genuína e produtiva. Enfrentei desafios quando houve desalinhamento, mas esses momentos também foram cruciais para o meu crescimento profissional, pois me ensinaram a importância de comunicar claramente meus valores e buscar ambientes que os respeitem e reflitam.

If an employer's values don't align with my own, they are not the right employer. I'm not changing my values. I'm not compromising on the significant aspects of who I am.

The few things I would consider are understanding what my core values are, researching on employer's values and trying to assess a common ground if our value resonates and if not openly communicating and setting up expectations to serve my fundamentals

Creo que el camino más consistente es el autoconocimiento, la jerarquía de valores en tu vida va cambiando, conocer tu jerarquía actual te permite con mayor coherencia reconocer aquellos valores comunes con tu empleador, también tus NO NEGOCIABLES. Eso te facilita las elecciones en un proceso de postulación a una vacante o de aceptar o no una propuesta de crecimiento dentro de la empresa. No siempre nuevas oportunidades te acercan a tus valores, algunas te alejan de ellas y solo tu sabes si esa distancia es consistente con el cambio que quieres para tu vida.

Para identificar los valores puedes empezar por mirar en retrospectiva las decisiones trascendentales en tu vida, qué te llevo a una u otra decisión. También puedes mirar tus decisiones cotidianas. Cuando tu dices prefiero viajar en bicicleta porque puedo elegir la ruta a tomar, eso habla de un valor de libertad como algo importante en tu vida. Cuando compras unos zapatos que es lo primero que observas: el material, el diseño, el color, el tipo de suela; esto puede hablar de valores como comodidad, sensibilidad estética, seguridad. Nuevamente mi invitación es CONOCIMIENTO de ti mismo, sólo de esta manera puedes identificar tus valores, los de tus compañeros de vida en el trabajo, en la casa, en la relación de pareja.

Un hecho vale más que mil palabras, la misión y la visión si bien son importantes, más importante aún es la coherencia entre lo que se comunica de forma verbal y no verbal. Ejemplos sobran de empresas donde las narrativas que se cuelgan en la pared de su misión y visión en nada se parecen a las narrativas que transmiten en sus prácticas de trato cotidiano a sus trabajadores, de la manera como resuelven sus diferencias o los desafíos con sus clientes. Así que para entender los valores del empleador hay que ver la empresa como una persona que tiene una mente consciente y una mente inconsciente que lo gobierna sin darse cuenta, sólo hasta cuando la persona se permite conocer ese inconsciente lo verbal y no verbal van en una sola dirección.

Seeking support from someone with coaching skills to facilitate this has a positive impact. Identifying factors that make team members happy or unhappy, things that either bind them to the team or make them consider breaking away, significant values upheld within the team, discussing overlooked important values, and categorizing them all create awareness. Subsequently, preparing a manifesto and proclaiming it supports people in adhering to it appropriately. I recommend repeating this study every six months.

You might discover that your values are no longer aligned with your employer. Maybe you changed. Maybe they changed. Try to resolve conflict if you can, but know that if neither of you are likely to change--it's time to go. This can be such a scary thought to come to terms with. It's always easier to stay. And depending on your job, industry, and the economy, it may be difficult to find a new role. But it's almost never impossible. And I promise you that when you reflect on that experience and your choice to leave, you won't regret it--you'll probably wish you'd had the courage to leave sooner.
