It all begins with three words Design of experiment - or DOE for short . If you get the DOE right, the rest will follow. One must spend enough time discussing with peers & allow critical thinking to shape his/her questions.

Often researchers will include stakeholders after they have prepared so much of the project only to realize either there might be more red tape or more work to be done. Manage Your Time: A well-planned timetable may make all the difference. Seek Feedback: Collaborate, seek advice, and constantly be willing to improve. Celebrate Achievements: Every achievement, no matter how minor, is significant.

1. Identify the problem that needs to be solved or the research gap that needs to be filled. 2. Go through what has been done to address that problem and compare your proposed methodology with existing ones. 3. If your proposed methodology/solution to the problem can solve the problem in a better way than the existing ones then proceed with outlining the complete process of implementation. 4. Break down difficult tasks into small achievable steps with clear deadlines. 5. Follow your plan and don't hesitate to reach out to experts when you are stuck at each stage. 6. Remember that you are doing something that will benefit society, so when you feel frustrated and stuck then take a break instead of giving up.

This is often the task which requires some bookkeeping skills. While identifying relevant sources i.e. papers, records, reports I found it and importing them to above mentioned software it’s often helpful to bookmark them with relevant keywords and pieces of information which makes that text valuable. I found papers (only on MacOS) effective in this aspect. I agree with the above statement because active involvement in literature perusals helps update the researchers on what the changes are for future research and reduces the use of old strategies,for example the introduction of artificial intelligence in research and development has changed the whole field and beyond.

What was good about the research, what was not as good, did they control confounding factors, using a reliable sample, critical analysis results, use correct analysis? Build flexibility and procrastination into your research schedule, especially if your research is not your main priority (family, work, health). It will also help to train yourself into a rhythm which is conducive to research, such as certain types of music while you do said research.

Researchers, be mindful of reaching a point of diminishing returns. Long hours may backfire, so maintaining a balanced lifestyle is crucial. Taking breaks, getting proper rest and enjoying recreational activities not only enhance well-being but also contribute to sustained productivity. Striking a healthy work-life balance fosters creativity, focus, and overall job satisfaction, ensuring a fulfilling research career. I had a list of 'small pleasures' when I was writing up my doctoral thesis, things as simple as having an almond croissant at Pret helped during that time. More recently, when I was working at a dynamic start-up, I always had a walk after lunch to energise me.

A very big problem always have a simple solution. Remember a space pen and pencil, both can solve gravity issue in writing. Don't think for complex solutions this will take all your time and perfectionism is an another killer. 1. Follow a simple go in and come out technique. 2. Keep a pen and a piece of paper always with you. The idea will never wait for you to try on it. So note it down anywhere when it comes to your mind even at your home, simply walk way. 3. Don't squeeze yourself when you don't know what you need to do. Read and listen to others, talk, walk, think, and do. 4. Never do multitasking it will kill your productivity and eat all your time. 5. Use technologies to support you and work for you. Try to automate your system.

I think this is crucial especially for mid career professionals as juggling lot of other competing priorities e.g family/kids can be very challenging. Need to prioritize on realistic basis and be flexible if targets are not met. Dont forget the big picture and your 'why' for doing it.

Research is a focused and dedicated activity. It needs individuals to be more self aware and prudent. Time management is certainly important but the following help to manage energy which is always neglected upon. Therefore I would like to emphasise on that. 1. Self-Care: Sleep well, eat healthy, stay active. 2. Breaks: Mindful breaks and physical activity. 3. Socialise: Connect to avoid isolation. 4. Variety: Switch tasks to prevent fatigue.

Make good decisions about who you collaborate with and when. Be certain they have the time, resources, expertise and will to help you. Plan to create team time when you can come together to discuss progress and chart the way forward. Collaboration is great when done right.

In collaborations, is important to clearly explicit the areas and tasks of the research project that each research group are accounted for. This eliminates the competition among groups.
