What are your unique selling points? What are your brand's goals and beliefs? How do you want your brand to sound and feel? These are some of the questions that can help you define your brand identity and positioning.

To really understand the brand of our clients we use the inside-out, outside-in method. After initial strategic sessions with the client's core team, we check in with employees that are in direct contact with their target groups. We want to understand how they see their company (and the brand). The next step is a 3 tier check-in with the target groups to see what they say and if that is in line with how the company sees their own brand. The 3 tiers to get in touch with the target groups, are: 1. An online questionnaire, 2. a telephone conversation with a select group, 3. formation of a small focus group in which we discuss the outcome of the brand trajectory, before the final launch.

Another important factor to consider when creating your tagline is your target audience. Who are they? What are their needs, wants, challenges, and aspirations? How do they perceive your brand and your competitors? How do you want them to relate to your brand? By knowing your audience, you can tailor your tagline to resonate with them and appeal to their emotions, values, and interests.

Once you have a clear picture of your brand and your audience, you can start brainstorming ideas for your tagline. Word association is one way to do this, by writing down words that relate to your brand, audience, industry, and benefits. You can also create an acronym to represent your brand or benefit or ask a question that provokes curiosity or emotion in your audience. Metaphors, similes, or analogies are also useful for comparing your brand or benefit to something familiar, surprising, or humorous. With these methods in mind, you can craft a tagline that captures the essence of your brand and resonates with your target audience.

We feel a tagline is stronger when it has a verb in it that is strongly connected to what the client has to offer. So we include a 'related verb' exercise into our tagline brainstorm sessions.

Evaluating taglines according to these criteria will help ensure that it has a lasting impression.

5 Test and get feedback

The final step in creating your tagline is to test it and get feedback from your audience, team, or experts. Surveys or polls can rate the tagline on a scale of 1 to 10, or ask people to explain why they like or dislike it. Focus groups or interviews can also be done to discuss the tagline in depth. Additionally, online tools or platforms such as Google Trends, Keyword Planner, Social Media Analytics, or Tagline Generator can analyze the tagline's performance.
