Without this approach, they may mentor in a way that superficially seems equitable, but may cause them to withhold support of, or avoid taking risks on, colleagues who are different. This approach is not easy, but is entirely worth the investment of thought, time, and energy.

Boosting confidence and improving the ability to engage with mentees can be achieved through participation in DE&I-related L&D before initiating the mentoring process. Mentors can enhance their cultural competency and increase their ability to relate to individuals from diverse backgrounds. Thus, helping mentors identify prejudicial thinking stemming from ignorance and lack of exposure. This increases the opportunity for the mentor to benefit from the bilateral learning that happens in the best of mentoring dyads. Mentors who undergo DE&I – L&D before mentoring are positioned to positively impact the organization's culture on a personal level. In turn, fostering a more inclusive and equitable workplace culture that benefits everyone.

Absolutely, designing the mentoring program is a critical step. Tailoring it to align with your vision, goals, and organizational needs is key. Decide on the program type - formal, informal, one-to-one, or group - that suits best. Matching mentors and mentees, offering training and support, monitoring progress, and celebrating successes are essential components. Equally important is ensuring diversity and inclusion, making the program accessible and fair to all. A well-designed program will be the cornerstone of your mentoring culture's success!

The focus should remain at identifying and strengthening the abilities that can pave way for the ideas to evolve comfortably. As a mentor its necessary to pinpoint these dimensions and get them incorporated in the vision statement.

Ways to structure a mentoring program 1. Define the program's goals. To get started, we should have parameters of our mentorship program and what objective we have and what we want to achieve from it. 2. Clear strategy how our program will work. Whether one to one meeting, group sessions, corner meeting with a bunch of employees depending upon the needs of our organization. Program can be short term or long term but there should be a follow up session after specified period of time. 3. Choose participants for our program. Include diversity and inclusion, have employees from different backgrounds, creed and race. 4. Divide mentor and mentees and pair them 5. Make sure to provide continuous support and training to every participant.

Allow the mentee to define professional and personal objectives that align with the company, team and business unit goals. Help them create a roadmap to achieve their career trajectory.

Employees can get engaged if Mentors can regularly schedule time for conversation so that mentees can reach out for advice, guidance, and support. Mentees should come to appointments prepared to discuss their goals and progress and should take an active role in working towards achieving them. Different methods can be used like sending Daily Scoop of how to get benefited from Mentoring program to employees/participants, webinars, live sessions, group meetings so they can exchange information, give suggestions and provide feedback. In my opinion, Communication is the key to engage your employees and ensure their interests. There is a need to create awareness, interest among employees that through this program they can get benefited a lot.

It all starts with servant leadership. Allowing the student (employee) to create the lesson only works with the teacher(company) is fluid enough to listen and act on whats shared.

Evaluation is incumbent on having baseline measures. Knowing how active your mentoring community is to start with. How well it's functioning and the impact it has before you introduce new or re invigorated efforts.

Now there is a need to do SWOT analysis of our mentoring program, strength, weakness, opportunities and threats/challenges it had. In that way, we can judge the effectiveness of our mentoring program by collecting data and analyzing it in detail against the goals. It is important to get the feedback from all participants and take their suggestions and evaluate it. So the next mentoring program can be made more effective and all weakness and challenges can be addressed.

This is important - for the mentee and mentor. These celebrations are best when you hear what both parties have learned and achieved. In my experience with mentoring programs, seeding success is important. Many programs are kind of like “arranged marriages”. To make sure the relationships thrive, incubating and nurturing the first few to build momentum can be super helpful. The helpful experience in the first interaction can incentive the next ones.

Reciprocity, honesty & mutual respect are vitally important to ensure the success of any mentoring programs. Beyond the rewarding 'feel good' aspect for mentors when their mentees succeed, mentors who are clear about their motivations and goals are more likely to fully commit to the relationship.
