Ensure that your team members are aware of this vision and mission and empower the team to embrace this. Align each member's goals and objectives with the common goals and provide them with the tools, resources, and support they need to succeed. Foster an environment of learning, motivation, and open communication, and encourage your team to share their ideas, insights, and feedback. Celebrate even small successes and ensure your team learns from every challenge/failure. Finally, regularly review and adapt the vision and mission to stay relevant and responsive to changing circumstances while maintaining focus on long-term objectives.

One of the precursors to Vision and Mission is having good understanding about the Purpose. The big 'Why' or the reason of existence. Everything has to be aligned to the Purpose at the end of the day. It also acts as an intrinsic motivator. A vision statement paints the aspirational picture of the future, akin to the horizon we're steering our ship towards. It's the embodiment of what we aim to achieve in the long run. On the other hand, a mission statement is the compass that guides us daily. While the vision is our destination, the mission ensures we're on the right path.

Alignment of the work being done with the 'Vision' can only happen if the vision in understood well. Articulation of the vision in a manner, which can be understood by the junior most person in the organization would make a long lasting impact of the vision. Many time, communicating vision requires breaking down the pieces of the statement so that it can be remembered as well as understood. It also requires helping connect dots on day to day operations with the vision and helping others understand why it matters makes the communication effective. Daily standup meetings to monthly all hands meetings, Vision has to be in the right and center.

My interpretation from Covey- Mission is the compass, Vision is the path.. I believe iconic enterprises have reached their zeniths, by adhering to their mission/vision from inception. It's absolutely essential to inspire the team with clear articulation of the objective, purpose, mission and the end state of things that one is aspiring for. It is important that leaders don't just focus on weaving an aspirational and dreamy world in their communication, but also provide a sense of direction & the pathways - in a way, tell the destination as well as the course of journey. Inspirational leaders are able to spur all parts of the organization including those that are handling the smallest of tasks, to act unitedly with a single minded devotion towards the unified goal.

It's casting a compelling narrative that captivates the collective imagination, encouraging everyone to dream big and reach for the stars. Just as a ship needs a captain to articulate the destination and motivate the crew, a clear vision provides the roadmap for the company's journey. In my experience the key to empowering the team is to ensure you are able to communicate the Vision and Mission in ways that are understandable across the breadth of the entire team being mindful that something that seems straightforward to one person can seem extremely complicated to another. The next element is to then take every opportunity to re-state it and bring it to life by communicating examples of behaviours / activities that align to the vision and mission - talk about what good looks like!

Leaders should reinforce the behaviors and activities that are most aligned with the vision and mission within their teams, but also setting aside time in broader organizational townhalls or quarterly meetings to recognize progress and learnings that are beneficial to everyone.

I think review & revision is key. As an organization grows , especially in the tech space, we have seen that basics can change, which can have an impact on your vision & mission statement. So every once in 3 years, newer enterprises need a refresh and check. I believe older /"established businesses" & enterprises need to review if organizational growth is on par with their founding value statements.

In my opinion very few plans are perfect the day they are written so revise as you learn. Additionally it is highly likely that the landscape will change as delivery of the Vision progresses so keep be prepared to adapt and pivot as needed. Just make sure you keep everyone aligned and aware of the reasons for revisions as they are made and don't make revisions to frequently as to do so will indicate that you don't actually have a clear Vision for where the business is headed!

What I have realized through my decades of experience in leadership role is organizations suffer from communicating less rather than more about the vision, mission and strategies to their teams. No communication is enough. If one thing the top leadership must do all the time is to use any opportunity they get to emphasize how the everyday work employees are doing is connected with the broader purpose, vision and mission of the organization. This necessarily means that leaders are not just focused on the very high level dreamy, ideal, aspirational stuff, but they're also able to link the big picture with the granular, operational details, and explain the same across the organization in a clear, uncomplicated & concise manner.

Overall this is a wonderful framework to communicate your mission and vision. In addition, I find having small open discussion with groups and asking them to play "devils advocate" and argue against the vision, strategy and tactics is a useful exercise. It has several benefits, it flushes out any holes in the plan, it gets individuals internalizing the plan and most importantly it helps get buy in from the group. Encouraging people to be open and transparent fosters a stronger culture of trust and team work.
