It depends on the type of meeting that you are facilitating, but in most cases I try to be well read in the meeting topic in addition to general facilitation techniques. Deep knowledge in a key meeting subject/theme can amplify the power of facilitation skills to bring the meeting to a successful conclusion in which strong forward progress is made toward achieving the purpose of the meeting.

Also ensure to put into practice what we learn in the process. One thing I have noticed is that the fact that sometimes as a facilitator, we get so comfortable with facilitating to the point that we feel we know it all and you just feel that you can facilitate anything and anytime, most times when it gets to that level facilitation becomes more like a routine and we fail to put into practice the things that we possibly learn. At this level it's very easy for a facilitator to loose it's audience easily because the audience also become so used to your method of facilitation that they feel that they already know what you are going to be saying or what you would do and so on and so forth. So putting into practice what we learn is key
