That's why it's so important to find people whose content you enjoy consuming because then you will be inspired to leave thoughtful commentary that amplifies your brand and attracts the people you want to see what you have to say. Many people who are renowned thought leaders do not operate their own social media channels. If you want to truly build out an engaged audience, you need to start engaging with people in your target audience instead. That means you are more relatable than anyone else out there, because your unique journey in life is the exact same as millions of other people out there. You have common ground. Does that mean you should continue down the same route, to maximize your engagement? Probably not. You need to experiment, but experiment within scope to who you are. If it feels too unnatural, you need to go back to your roots. Because your personal brand needs to be identical, both online and offline, or people might have some unusual things to say about you after meeting in person.

Just because something works, it doesn’t mean you should keep doing it. And the same goes for if something doesn’t work. You’ve heard of stories where someone made 100 videos on YouTube that no one watched, then all of a sudden, someone discovers the channel and it blows up. If you have a system down, you need to stay as true to who you are as possible. People can see through people who are inauthentic. And while it may sometimes make sense to cater to the general audience of a specific platform, you don’t want to be doing dances if you’re a total introvert just to get some likes.
