The second step is to identify the root cause of the error, and then come to conclusions: why this error happend? why automated tests didn't catch that error? Then, we improve out test suites to check for a class of similar errors BEFORE even deployment is happening. Or: we update development and deployment standards to include this cause of error or similar ones. Sometimes the error comes not from the code itself, but from outer factors, e.g. third-party services or APIs.
