How do you make your content more searchable on social media?

To enhance content searchability across various social media platforms, tailored strategies are essential. Start by conducting a keyword research within your niche, employing tools like Google Ads' keyword research or Ubersuggest. Start by envisioning the search terms potential buyers might enter on Google when seeking a product akin to yours. You will get a mix of long-tail and single-word keywords to use. For instance, on Instagram, utilize hashtags strategically in your post captions. Additionally, craft alt-text descriptions for your images, incorporating relevant keywords. Extend your reach by sharing content on your stories, where you can incorporate keywords, hashtags, location tags, and hide them for a cleaner look.

The trick is to find keywords which have a high enough volume, but low enough competition to make yourself heard. In other words, you want to aim for keywords which people actually search for, but of which there aren't a billion content pieces on already. ahrefs and semrush are great tools to find those numbers.

I find it less useful to worry about specific keywords and worry more about what my ideal clients are searching for. Sometimes the keywords you think your clients would be searching for aren't what they actually use. Have conversations with your clients and learn the language they speak, then write your content around how they talk, because that's how they tend to search!

Take it a step further, explore the use of Topics. When putting out your content, make use of the Topics tool or categorise your writing by Topics. It makes it easy for the right audience to find you at any time. Recall how books are broken into chapters and you can simply start where you want? Topical categorisation of content, over time, helps your audience to navigate easily and gives them the power of choice when interacting with your content. Instagram has a powerful Topics tool for Reels. Twitter offers a Topics tool which you can leverage for transforming your content and engagement for greater visibility.

I've found that between 1-3 keywords per post is the sweet spot; no need to overdo it! Your content will come across as less spammy and more genuine. Also, consider using "long-tail" Keywords. These are longer and more specific phrases that visitors are more likely to use when they are closer to a point of purchase or when they are using voice search. They can be less competitive and can help you target a more specific audience. Google Keyword planner is my favorite tool to use for research!

Tell the story first and then determine the content format from there. Tailor the content format to the platform using platform relevant insights - carousels that work well on Instagram can easily be converted into PDFs that work well on LinkedIn. Idea -> Story -> Format -> Repeat.

in my own experience, relevant keywords are the entry point of searchable content. When people search for content on social media, they use keywords. So, it's important to use relevant keywords in your content titles, descriptions, captions, and hashtags. You can use a keyword research tool to help you find relevant keywords. But again, it's jut my own opinion :D

before choosing the content format, you have to be clear with what your business deals with and how you can showcase your products and solutions. For better reach and engagement, video posts and carousels undoubtedly work better than a single image post or text post. Chalk out a content planner and plan your content accordingly, for instance, on the LinkedIn platform - if you are posting 4 days a week - go for one carousel, one poll, one text post/article/newsletter and definitely a video post. keep experimenting with the formats on a biweekly basis to understand the analytics and reception. Use the different features like Reels, Stories, Highlights on Instagram and similar features for the respective platform.

Make the most of repurposing your content - tailor your content to the format preferred by your platform. Instagram and Facebook champion video-first content. Ask yourself, can this post be repurposed as a video/reel? For LinkedIn, can I make this post a series of slides or long-form text? If you can successfully repurpose your content across a variety of platforms, it will save you from needing completely different strategies for each platform.

First and foremost, maintain a consistent posting schedule to keep your audience engaged and informed. Ensure your content is highly relevant to your target audience and provides value. For example, if you're a fitness influencer, create workout tutorials with clear instructions and tips that your audience can apply. Encourage audience engagement through questions, polls, or calls to action. As a fitness influencer, you can ask how many times people prefer to workout in a week, or their favorite kind of workout.

Leveraging social media features is often overlooked. Many audiences purely search platforms using these tools (Example: Many Instagram users begin and end their session within Instagram Stories). Understanding each platform's variety of features is key to standing out to your audience and creating a better sense of community and engagement. Truly leverage these features if you want to stand above your competitors.

Adopt a dynamic engagement strategy by creating engaging Reply Chains. Engage actively with your audience. Respond to their comments, likes, reposts showing appreciation and nurturing meaningful discussions. When replying to a comment, aim to stimulate dialogue by asking a meaningful question and/or tag someone who might add a valuable insight to the conversation chain or may be interested in it. Every like, comment, share, repost and tag serves as a powerful signal for the algorithm to amplify your content's reach. Leverage these signals to enhance your visibility and attract new followers.

Is your content branded? Does the business or organization uses its content to attract clients, sells its products or services, and/or uses its online presence to attract donations? If so, investing money to increase content visibility is an option to consider. These methods may be worthwhile: Create ad campaigns through search engines (GoogleAds, etc.). Use pay-to-promote services on large social media platforms that offer posts (such as Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram), etc.

Here's an easy and very effective hack to stand out on X (fka Twitter). - stuff your bio with relevant hashtags - add the main hashtag you want to be known for to your account name. I’ve tested new Instagram accounts in the last few months and here’s what I’ve found: 1. Reels continue to outperform carousels even if the content is the same 2. Answer to every comment made about your post timely. Mention people by their name, thank them for their contribution, and continue enriching the discussion.

Posting and ghosting is the BIGGEST no-no! Every comment made on your post is time someone took to share their thoughts with you. If you didn't care to respond to them...why did you bother posting in the first place. This 100% goes for brand content as well. Be engaging.....and then engage!! Every minute of effort you make to engage on your post (and equally as important, on other's posts) has a cascade effect on future posts you make create or engage with.

If you’re not engaging back with your audience, the algorithm is listening! Act like your community are truly your real life neighbours. Value them as people not accounts. Treat them with care and watch how your account starts to be favoured.

Simply put: respond to most/all comments. Like/favorite most/all comments. Make video replies to comments ONLY if the content is interesting and unique for your content.

1/ Don't focus on using keywords only. You also need to write for your audience. This means understanding their needs, interests, and pain points. When you write for your audience, you'll be more likely to create content that they'll find valuable and engaging. 2/ The more often you post, the more likely your content is to be seen by people. So, make sure to post regularly on all of your social media channels. 3/ When you engage with your audience, you're more likely to get them to interact with your content. So, take the time to respond to comments, answer questions, and participate in conversations. These are the things that I follow to get my content more searchable on social media.

Developing searchable content takes time. Especially organic media. It requires testing audiences, testing content formats, and testing strategy - constantly. Social media is a rapidly changing environment which means regularly tweaking your content and strategies. If your content starts to drop in engagement, change a few things. It doesn't mean your content is a dead cause, and you'll be surprised at the result you may find from small changes to captions, format, or audience targeting.

I’ve been working on a client’s account now for 6 months. I’ve tested a few things out and here’s what I’ve found: Strategies are meant to be updated and optimised. I told her today we were testing 30 days of Reels. Sounds insane right? Not really, because it’s being made up of 6-10 second clips that she’ll be filming and I just have to edit. So from a marketing perspective I can’t wait to test this out for her! But don’t be afraid to throw things out the window if they aren’t working! Check your insights and adjust accordingly. PS- selling to your audience is serving! Don’t be afraid to sell!

There is no *one* kind of tone or type of visual that will resonate with every person in your audience! Keeping in mind that social media is always changing and evolving, it's always smart to experiment with new content, new styles, new visuals and anything else means new opportunities to be bold and stand out from the crowd. And before you yell "consistency!" let me just add that being a constantly interesting and unique voice *is* being consistent, and is truly worth your while to keep things fresh and stay above the noise. Be your authentic self (this goes for brand strategy too!) and it will more than pay off.

The beautiful thing about social media is that you can get instant feedback on your content - especially sites like TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn. Track your content - if it's not performing well, try doing something else. If something catches fire, try to find out what really resonated with your audience (by carefully reading and digesting the comments) and try to reproduce that success.

Having said this before, Experimenting and testing with content formats and using different approaches can always strengthen your digital marketing. A/B Testing and Split Testing will help you gain traffic, boost visibility and eventually get more conversions. Multivariate testing is a great tool to use as part of your conversion rate optimisation strategy in the case of B2C marketing. With changing trends and booming business opportunities, social media is nothing less than an ocean, you just need to pick which ship to sail across.

There are several steps to be taken into consideration while creating content that is more searchable but one thing that works best is focus on quality content. Publish something that adds value, insights or thought process. There is so much content available that everything is not too uninspired and repetitive. Be original, be you :)

I have a different view. Allow me :-) Yes, content that's "searchable" can add value. But content that's "searchable" pales in comparison with content that's "sought out". There's a key difference between these two things: * Being "searchable" is content that might show up when people are searching * Being "sought out" is content that people eagerly await, because they know it's going to deliver immense value The first approach is indexing. The second is branding. And a strong brand is what makes people seek you out. PS: Branding is much more than just a logo and some ads. Branding is getting clear on what your business stands for, then relentlessly reinforcing that through content this week, next week and every week.

Paid promotion can help push your content to a larger and more targeted audience, increasing its visibility. Engagement-focused content doesn't remain hidden in the noise of social media. It helps you reach the right audience, measure the impact of your content, and achieve your marketing goals effectively. When used strategically, paid advertising can significantly boost the searchability and engagement of your social media content.

Track you previous posts performance to replicate success. Look at reach, views, and engagement. Get to insights to determine what works best for your audience, and refine future posts accordingly.

One thing I've found helpful is tracking or measuring the performance of your content. Tools like Google Analytics, Hootsuite or BuzzSumo can really be effective to help you understand how your audience engages with your content. This way you can tailor and/or adjust your content more effectively.
