What is required to provide productive inventory management is different for virtually every business sector, but the overall requirements are, to some degree, standard. To me, the real key to success is to find and implement the right IT system for managing inventory management, interfacing with all related production systems.

To track inventory real time one should use a good system that should have the capability of maintaining inventory of multiple entities e.g. store inventory and engineer inventory, once store keeper assigns items to engineer it should reflect in engineer inventory so that the manager of the store can track where his inventory is lying. Similarly, once the engineer is completing any job which has the spare requirement his mobile app can show the deduction of good part and an increment of defective part in his inventory bins. Reports like inventory ageing can give the clear picture if the stock after GRN is kept idle. So, all the items are traceable where it is and it would be helpful to the manager to analyse and to take action further.
