How do you manage and grow your online community?

One of the major reasons why I love creating content online is community building. One can establish themselves as an expert, and connect with others who share similar interests and the support they get from their community is unmatchable. Here is how I defined my community purpose when I started (and did the same for my clients as well) 1: What are my interests? 2: Who are my target audience, their interests and needs? 3: Do I need a community? If I do, then why? How do I add value? What & how am I hoping to achieve? 4: What do I want my community members to remember about me? 5: What are the benefits of being a member of my community? 6: Most importantly, how will I ensure that it is a safe and welcoming place for everyone?

Cultivating your online community requires consistent nurturing, like tending a garden. Engage regularly by responding to questions and feedback. Spotlight active members with shoutouts. Share behind-the-scenes updates to cultivate belonging. Keep content fresh yet on-brand to retain interest. Remove weeds quickly before they spread. Always, always, always keep your community's interests ahead of yours. While you may build this community with a specific (business) goal in mind, if you do not serve your community and put them first, people will disappear! They can see through sales tactics and self-promotion really quickly.

It drives traffic to your website, builds relationships with your audience & helps you achieve your business goals. For me, answering 3 questions play a major role while creating content: 1: Am I adding value to my community? 2: Is the content easy to understand? 3: Is it spreading negativity in any way? I also experiment a lot. I majorly divide them into 3 types: 1: I repurpose my previous content into different content formats. 2: I take note of FAQs and conduct polls on what my community wants to see often from me. 3: Analyse the content that has worked well.

Pero uno se pregunta a veces ¿qué es contenido valioso? ¿Una pieza de buena calidad? ¿Un porcentaje sacado de BARD? Miren los usuarios son cada vez crítico en su consumo, es evidente que el contenido valioso es algo auténtico, no es lo mismo que montañista te dé un consejo sobre escalar, a que una empresa te dé tips para escalar. El contenido que resalta siempre en la pecera, siempre es un contenido auténtico y preciso, donde esa persona nunca más se vuelva a preguntar donde puedo encontrar este producto o servicio porque ya sabe que "x" lugar lo tiene.

No solo se trata de comprender las necesidades e intereses de la audiencia, sino también de establecer conexiones emocionales y proporcionar soluciones tangibles a sus desafíos. Es esencial adoptar un enfoque estratégico al diversificar los formatos de contenido y utilizar las plataformas más adecuadas para cada uno, maximizando así el alcance y la participación. Además, la calidad del contenido debe estar respaldada por una sólida comprensión de las métricas y análisis pertinentes, permitiendo una optimización continua y una adaptación ágil a las tendencias emergentes del mercado. Este enfoque centrado en el valor asegura que la comunidad no solo crezca en tamaño, sino también en compromiso y lealtad a largo plazo.

You're halfway there if you're naturally sociable. People can feel it when you're interested in them. But, you must preserve your best assets: time, energy, and memory. Try these: Time: You won't be available at all times, set these expectations. Time expands via shifts with your colleagues or by proxy with your moderators. Mods better be organic than employees. Esto crea un valor adicional para los miembros y fomenta la retención.

No body likes going to an empty restaurant. Similarly, you should let your fist 100 members in for free. Find some real followers and promote them to community advocates. It helps make it seem like more of a movement and spreads the load of running and growing a community.
