As told in the previous article, we can observe the time duration and scalability of an API through SOAP UI. But there are few more better tools which were used to test the performance of an API like JMeter, LoadRunner, NeoLoad. we can try to integrate those tools with SOAP UI or run parallelly with SOAP UI while testing API's. Then we can capture the in and out time of a request and response and also we can capture the request can be handled by an API per a minute or an hour …etc. If its not possible to use the above performance testing tools, we can even use PowerShell script to test the performance of an API. we can also use performance monitor in Windows to check the performance of an API.

If you employ higher number of threads (100+) you may experience performance issues in SoapUI. At the end, the results of the performance test may be affected by SoapUI and your testing machine performance. JMeter is more scalable for higher loads (1000+ threads). Still, for smaller loads SoapUI usually provides useful results with a very little effort.

While I was working for a critical project where there is an high importance for performance, I have used JMeter which is an open source performance testing tool for measuring the performance. Then I have created 1000 threads approx. and with time duration as 21600 sec. and imported all the data to csv file and started the test. This test will return the number of requests handled by an API per minute and total requests handled in the given time duration. Parallelly, I have ran a PowerShell script to get the performance of server while running this performance test. Finally we got the both data of an API and server performance which is best used to decide the performance of an API. This is best approach to judge the performance of SOAP API.
