1 Assess the venue

Before you install or upgrade any wireless equipment, you need to conduct a thorough site survey of the venue. This will help you identify the physical layout, dimensions, materials, obstacles, and sources of interference that might affect wireless signals. You also need to estimate the number and type of wireless devices, applications, and bandwidth requirements that will be used in the venue. A site survey will help you plan the optimal locations, orientations, and configurations of wireless access points (APs), antennas, and cables.

2 Choose the right frequency band

Wireless communications systems use different frequency bands to transmit and receive data. The most common ones are 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, which have different advantages and disadvantages. The 2.4 GHz band has a longer range and better penetration, but it is more crowded and prone to interference from other devices and appliances. The 5 GHz band has a shorter range and less penetration, but it offers more channels and higher speeds. Depending on the size, shape, and density of the venue, you might want to use a combination of both bands, or prefer one over the other. 3 Optimize AP placement and density

You also want to avoid placing APs near metal objects, walls, ceilings, windows, or other sources of interference or reflection. A general rule of thumb is to place APs at least 10 meters apart, and at a height of 2.5 to 3 meters from the floor. However, you might need to adjust these parameters depending on the shape and size of the venue, the number and type of wireless devices, and the expected traffic patterns.
