When starting out, if your goal is investors or partners - the most important next step is getting traction & time with potential partners. So I encourage a positive mindset & attitude of abundance, and sharing openly & boldly, to get attention & make progress. If you are too cautious or protective, the bigger risk than theft - is that no one ever hears about it. The truth is that ideas are really not the gold, it’s the execution and the unique skills and capabilities you bring to bear. Professional investors and credible partners won’t look to steal ideas, & have no interest, they want partners like you. Amateurs with a scarcity mindset may think of stealing, but they will unlikely do much. So share openly but judiciously.

In situations where sharing your entire business plan may be a concern, consider providing redacted pitch summaries. These summaries omit sensitive details while still conveying the essence of your plan.

This will safeguard all parties giving a piece of mind. The NDA can enhance a business relationship displaying professionalism and sincerity of the other people. In my personal experience, some might be reluctant to sign the NDAs: 1) they feel it is too one-sided agreement - it could be over protective of the business 2) over excessive use of legality terms - too much legal terms become a turn off for an NDA. 3) breach and consequences are too scary - the legal breach and consequences become legal binding and it can be too scary for the other party to proceed further. Some of the best long-term parties i have work with on NDAs, is using a mutual (2-way) NDA, it is fair and protects both parties' interest. Initiate a chat before draft.

That's why Apple throws most of their discarded ideas there to hoodwink their competitors whilst Coca Cola still has no patents filed on their secret recipe after over a hundred years.
