There was a person who questioned that we are at an early stage startup and we can't afford UX research at this particular point of time. Main mistake observed here was they wanted to hold up the UX research process without giving much priority to it. Here from my concern, if you don't have much resources for UX research don't worry, just launch the product. After getting some feedbacks from users , try to jot down the useful insights from your product and then re work on the UX process.

This wastes valuable time and resources. By prioritizing research before design, designers can avoid the trap of creating beautiful designs that miss the mark.

In a way, designers are their own 'Design Advocates', and it's quite easy for them to get a little carried away with the language they use. Another common mistake we make is communicating through 'Jargon'. Stakeholders and users may not be aware of the technical terms you quote, hence, they don't understand the context and actual emotions. Be open to feedback (good or bad); you should embrace it and own it. If it's negative feedback, try to put yourself in their shoes and understand how it could be made better.

50% of design is sales: you are selling a concept, research findings, designs, etc. But as designers we can be good at it if we apply UX techniques – understand the needs, goals, motivations and context of your stakeholders (they are just like users), and craft your message and deliver for them. And always, always, always tell a story!!!

Most startup companies in developing countries don't realise the power of user testing and its costing them their business, not testing the product with real users and get pain points, feedbacks, frustrations, mental models, emotions..... in order to create a successful product that the user desires, uses and make their life easier. so user testing is very crucial and mandatory.

Adequate testing is usually overlooked in UX design presuming that a well thought through design will function effectively when usage begins. However, I have learnt through painful experiences that even when a design is well researched and constructed, users can still struggle with it. And this is only learnt in the very later stages. Hence, it is vital to validate and test the designs for their effectiveness and tweak it based on empirical data.

Even before I got into UX design, I've always cared about including everyone. It just feels right, you know? You don't want anyone feeling left out. So, when I started designing, I made sure to step back and think about all kinds of users. It's about making sure everyone feels welcome and understood, even in the digital world. As Henry Ford said “If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.” Too much empathy might actually hold back the cool, game-changing ideas. Sure, understanding users is key, but if we only focus on what they say they need or want, we might miss out on inventing something they never even dreamed of. Sometimes, you've got to shake things up and not just smooth out the rough edges. It's about not just fixing today's issues but also throwing in a bit of "What if?" to figure out the next big thing. So, while empathy is great, combining it with a bit of rebellious thinking could lead to designs that really turn heads and set new trends.

Get defensive when receiving feedback about your design. Feedback is shared to benifit you not to criticise what you are doing or your designs. Try always to be rational and subjective and get the benifit from the feedback, discuss it and improve if needed.

While services like Dribble can be a great source of inspiration, it is important to understand the reasoning behind the design decisions and not merely copy them. For instance, cool animations might be visually appealing, but if they are too lengthy, they can frustrate the users. Similarly, some design solutions may be too complex to implement, leading to issues in development. Therefore, it is vital to use the right design solutions in the right situations and not blindly follow popular trends.
