I agree but, there’s always a possibility that these updates can cause unexpected problems and incompatibilities. It really depends on the situation. Real-time solutions are always encouraged as well as through “legit” backup plans (cloning) etc.

The best advice to be had is have automated updates but have it in a staggered schedule where you have a test bed of machines that get the patch first before it is deployed fully to production. Minimizes the chances of something going wrong. Additionally you can partner who will test those patches before deploying to your test bed.
