Checking data quality & validity are part of the analytic process that involve early and ongoing analysis.

This is critical in visualizations and dashboards because we need to pay attention to which data is included in aggregations. Sensitive information like PII & PHI are often managed through column security, where we control specific data elements (like name or DOB) and who can see those elements. Additionally, regulations like HIPAA, GDPR, and the US Privacy Act must be considered.

Regardless, each analyst and analytic leader needs to be aware of regulations affecting their work. HIPAA is a common example in the US.
