But personally, I believe we have outdated trends to brush off and new trends to start trying out. There are a few platforms that we graphic designers can check out to keep our creative mind sharpened and well trendy too. For example, if you're looking for trending images and topics, you can check out pinterest. Pinterest has a variety of vectors, illustrations, mood boards, images etc. It is such a broad platform that can never run out of trendy item for its users. If you also want to check out what your fellow graphic designers have been up to, just in case you feel like you're lagging behind, you can search on behance.

One thing I found helpful is to make a separate business account for following popular graphic designers. Instagram is a beneficial way for getting inspired by well known small businesses, companies, and individuals who are household names and experts in the field of graphic design. Another thing is to have an active account. Checking your social media often can result in coming across inspirational artwork and images that can help inspire you to create innovative art, design, and graphics. You never know who might inspire you.

I'd take social media with a grain of salt. While hugely important as way to promote one's work, social media as a source of inspiration is incredibly powerful and relevant if one is as careful as a museum artistic curator when selecting what gets the privilege to enter their daily feed. I feel that most people just simply keep adding numbers to their follower lists in a search for more personal exposure for their own posts. You are the curator of your own brain museum. It is better in my opinion to have less but way more qualified followers and contacts than just to keep adding people regardless of the quality of their work.

Just by walking down the street and viewing the littany of advertising that will be thrown your way is design research, whether you are conscious of it or not. Keep your eyes up and open, and absorb all the different brand identities, packaging, styles and trends that we are surrounded by in our daily lives.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned design festivals. It's an excellent way to meet fellow designers and listen to some fantastic keynote speakers. The speakers usually talk about the future of design which is extremely useful. Just search for design festivals near me and you should find one.
