What is the best way to demonstrate your electronic engineering experience in an interview?

Being prepared in an interview is key to your success. Not only researching the position but the company as well. Being able to align yourself with the position will make it easier to, lack for a better word, "sell" yourself for that position. Not only understanding what the position requires but how it applies to you and your skill set will go a long way.

En experiencias propias, en varias entrevistas me han consultado si sé sobre la empresa en cuestión, y tener detalles sobre eso deja una muy buena visión sobre el interés sobre el puesto a aplicar.

To a certain degree, it can be dependent upon who is conducting the interview as mentioned previously. It is always good to do some research on the company beforehand and try to match your previous experience with who they are and what they are expecting you to be able to do for them before attending any meetings with people.

Na minha opinião, existem dois passos interessantes para demonstrar experiência. O primeiro deles é contar com detalhes, sem se estender além do tempo necessário, atividades e projetos já realizados. A sua função em cada etapa dos projetos deve ser compartilhada. O segundo passo interessante é mostrar projetos físicos ou um portfólio, nos quais você realmente tenha trabalhado.

Bringing a portfolio or samples to an interview can significantly enhance your ability to demonstrate. Including a variety of projects in your portfolio can showcase the breadth of your experience. Whether it's circuit design, system integration, or software development, presenting a diverse range of work highlights your versatility as an electronics engineer. Remember to tailor your portfolio to align with the specific requirements of the job you're interviewing for. Discussing the contents of your portfolio during the interview provides an opportunity to elaborate on your experiences and engage the interviewer in a meaningful conversation about your electronics engineering expertise.

There’s just nothing like artifacts. If you can physically bring a product or a part you contributed to with you to an interview, that makes a powerful impression. But it has to fit in your pocket. The alternative is to bring a notebook containing pictures and cut sheets for products you’ve contributed too. But organize and rehearse with this book. Flipping around randomly while muttering, “I know it’s in here somewhere,” doesn’t look good. Be prepared to move cleanly from one example to the next. And be prepared to discuss each at different levels. Finally, in most cases engineers work on a team. Be prepared to discuss your contribution and how you worked with others.

For most of the positions I've applied for did not require a portfolio. Your portfolio for showing competence of your brain. You know what you've worked on and completed. Speak about those project, both the highs and the lows and how you accomplished the task at hand. That speaks loudly to you ability not only as an electrical engineer but your ability to work through and traverse obstacles as they arise.

In the federal government, interview panelists are focused on three elements for each experience example given; C R I - Contribution, Result, and Impact. If your example is missing any of these elements, then it is incomplete. Like a three legged stool, if a leg is missing, it will not stand. Always present your relevant experience with C R I and you will score points in your interview.

I would recommend to use more challenging products or project that are not successfully finished to highlight the problem finding and solving skills along with some successful projects, the reason is because we learn more from a failed project then successful one.

I would delve into key projects, outlining the challenges faced and the strategies employed to optimize designs for manufacturability while reducing costs. I would elaborate on coordinating with cross-functional teams, including Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, to ensure successful project outcomes, and my experience in dealing with customer feedback and concerns.

Show a genuine interest in the products or services the business outputs. I'd recommend doing some research on the products before the interview, and to think about how they work yourself. Ask yourself 'how might I have implemented this'. It'll be a good topic to discuss, ie 'I've seen this product on your website, does it use this sort of circuit or architecture?'

Creo que realizar consultas/preguntas técnicas sobre el puesto o la forma en la que se trabaja genera una sensación de interés en el reclutador, ya que demuestra que la persona entrevistada está realmente interesada en el puesto.

While preparing, think about the projects you're most proud of and refresh your enthusiasm for them. This will reflect well in the interview.

It very depends on interviewer - if it just HR then talk about projects in global, if position supervisor then you may speak on same “language “ and talk about some details and issues resolved

Be consistent, concise, and above all else confident in yourself. Showing that your confident in not just your skill set, but your ability to learn new skills and build on existing skills will go a long way. In my experience, being negative on yourself draws out questions from the interviewer that can show your ability to think outside box, show your critical thinking skills, as well as your ability to work through obstacles.

Como Ing. Junior, creo que la confianza sobre uno mismo es de vital importancia a la hora de presentarse en una entrevista. Transmitir confianza sobre los conocimientos que uno posee genera una buena imagen. Además, el entusiasmo por los proyectos o experiencias realizadas en el pasado y las "ganas" de continuar aprendiendo/mejorando reflejan el conocimiento en la entrevista.

I always bring actual samples of my engineering work including schematic diagrams, blank printed circuit boards, populated circuit boards, printed listings of software used for firmware, and any other item I can bring relevant to the client's operations.

Give examples of your Achievements during past experience related to future job responsibilities because most of the managers are interested in results achieved and like results driven candidates

Try solving a real life problem that your prospective employer hasn't been able to solve. That pretty much guaranteed me a job offer, and even though I had a better one elsewhere, that prospective employer benefitted from my solution. Subsequently I offered job candidates opportunities to do the same on thorny issues, which allowed me to examine their problem-solving approach -- and potentially reap benefits even without hiring. Much better than a "canned" problem exercise.

It's always good to talk about previous experiences and projects. Be very careful to not give away any confidential information such as trade secrets. If you can find it on Google, then you're ok to talk about it. You can still talk about projects, just remove the fine detail. How can your new employer trust you won't give away their trade secrets if you're happy to give away those from your previous?

Majority of the questions can answered by referring to your past work experiences. The details pertaining to certain questions are more convincing when they based on actual work experiences.
