What are the best ways to develop and communicate your photography brand?

Sometimes I think this idea of Niche gets taken too far. Think of niche more of a feeling and less of a subject. My goal is for potential clients and people to know it's my work immediately because of the look and feel. If you have a personal style that's unique I believe you can transcend any subject matter and create something that is truly unique to you. Once you find your style, by creating lots of images and discovering what you have to say, show it to people!! I also believe in having a brand identity or motto. My personal "motto" is to "help people feel seen, heard and loved by telling their story in a beautiful way." This allows me to be sure my brand is aligning with my personal beliefs and goals and will help shape your vision.

Networking with people is a good step to communicating your brand. Choose an interest, the type of photography to do or specialise in. Client choices: what group of people are your targeting? Know what you want to do will help narrow you to to research, learn and develop in that arwa much so that you have goo grounding. Also find something to make you stand out from others noting you're not the only one in that area of interest.

Once you have defined your niche in photography, work to establish your own style of photography and develop your network of like minded photographers and related people. I would recommend that you use a CRM to manage your contacts and keep adding new information to this database so you can learn the links between people within your selected industry. I would also consider picking an industry to work within not a genre of photography. For example I think personal branding photography is to generic instead think more of an industry ie social care, finance, wedding, fashion, or any other one you know about and then think how could a photographer service this industry.

Photography, like all other art forms, requires practice, trial and error, and continuous learning. It's also important for your photography to have a "look and feel" that is the same everywhere you show it. Create a vision statement and bio that defines who you are and tells others about what makes you different. Use these hand-in-hand with your branding pieces to explain to people, in words, what you are all about as well.

This is pretty crucial. And beyond the logo (which should be kept simple, not camera icons please!), it's worth looking at the experience you give your audience. This is from your first touch point perhaps on social media, to your website to your quotes and more. Look out for others in your niche, how can you enhance a touch point to be more memorable? Could share prints at in-person meetings? Showcase your abilities with a personal video. There is so much you can do beyond the visual identity.

Well, while creating a visually appealing identity, consistency is key and it should be precise and rememberable. Therefore, the easier it becomes relatable to your audience

Your voice reflets your character, and your character is what distinguishes you from the crowd. Your words matter but the melody of your voice makes all the difference! Use your voice correctly and let people enjoy listening to you.

Brand voice is super important. But people find it hard to excavate their own story, their values and unique selling point. I suggest you speak to someone, let them interview you, and craft and story for you. It's something I do for my clients and it's such an efficient yet authentic way to capture your voice and vision.

This is really important as there are so very many skilled photographers around. To stand out amongst them you need to connect to your audience. When they get you know you and feel related to what you have to say and they've learned something interesting, your images will have more meaning to them.

From what I see around, especially with artists from all genres and fields, is that they try to brand themselves the same way big corporations and logos do. As an artist, you need to realize that all these corporations are trying to do is create a personality behind the logo. People connect with people. You already have your personality. You have other hobbies, you have friends, you go out, you travel, you have ups, you have downs. Embrace it, and share who you are with the world. Who YOU are is the BRAND!!

Ultimately it's you who have to speak for your work. Communication is the key. Once you start putting effort, people start noticing and speak for your work. They will make it reach to the world. Use every possible medium. Print media, news media, social media, microsites, websites, platforms such as Unsplash, Pinterest etc... Credibility should be the USP. Share your portfolio in all possible network. Make it minimal so that it makes people to spend more time looking on it. Make more room for photographs rather that designs and writings. Write about the content on the page in a space where attention of the people fall. Make it crisp and use simple colors. Add all possible type of photographs inyour portfolio.

Hands down your portfolio is important; it helps to showcase your skills, style, and creativity and build your reputation blah, blah, blah😜. Unfortunately, it's not the only thing, and perhaps, maybe even not the most important thing, to become a successful business. Marketing, selling skills, networking, and business skills might be way more impactful. Not always those with the prettiest portfolios are the most successful; maybe it's not fair, but it's the reality. It's like with every other business, you need to know how to find clients and how to sell; that's a society we have created and are living in, so...🤷♂️

To showcase my work I update my work regularly on multiple platforms like my website, Instagram, and of course LinkedIn. I also sell some of my photos as prints on some art sites, so I have a nice collection on those sites as well. Another thing I like to do is record my photo shoots and post snippets of that on Instagram. Displaying your work is one of the best ways to get people engaged in what you’re doing.

The two most important aspects here are 1—your ability to comprehend, communicate, and then produce highly creative representations of the requests in the brief 2- prospective customers having access to your portfolio. Seeing your work and you (the Photographer) being able to explain the understanding and process behind the images gives a 1 to 1 comparison to your customers of what they are likely to experience with your service.

Always put an effort to spread out and jump out of the bubble. Join in all online and offline groups where you can showcase your work. Attend exhibitions and look out for the possibilities. Interact with people, understand the pros and cons. Know about the perspective of people as it may differ from one to another. Volunteering is a good option to build network. Collaborate with other brands to make room for your brand as well.

Your Network is often your net worth. Become a people person even if you're introverted the more people recognize your face and your work the more they recommend you. When your customer service matches your personality and your brand you can build a successful brand. It's not always what you know, but often who you know - allowing you to be in rooms you never imagined yourself being a part of previously.

One of the networking options that has been of exceptionally beneficial to me is joining online community where the members are in the same niche. Over time I’ve been able to build connections and working relationships to the point that now work comes to me and I don’t have to spend nearly as much time trying to chase down work. That’s a powerful thing!

Your brand is how your clients feel about your company. Giving them the best experience possible, treating them like gold (because really they are), and as if they are your only customers is key. Give them something to talk about and then they can't help but be cheerleaders! Taking the next step and inviting them to write a review after we receive a gushing email means they tell our story to prospective clients better than we ever could!
