Some of the important things to consider here... 1. Understand what Agility means to you. How do organizations get benefits and how does it influence the business/tech landscape? 2. Go through the Agile manifesto - values and principles and try to understand these. Gold mine 3. Identify skills and tools which you want to learn and upskill. 4. As a mid-career professional, learn communication and collaboration skills for interacting with upstream and downstream.

To better understand Agile I recommend reading the Agile Manifesto and its associated 12 principles. Other descriptions or summaries of Agile are okay, but everyone should read the original document and get it as it was written. I think it conveys the ideas of Agile best.

Es gibt zahlreiche Weiterbildungsmöglichkeiten zu den Fähigkeiten und Werkzeugen der Agilität. Das beginnt beim Lesen eines Buches zu dem Thema und mündet in mehrtägigen Trainings. Aus meiner Sicht ist das jedoch nicht ausreichend, denn das eigentliche Lernen passiert woanders: Es ist entscheidend, aus Erfahrung zu lernen. Natürlich ist es nicht so leicht, den Anfang zu machen. Daher empfehle ich Shadowing oder "Buddy"-Arbeit. Schließen Sie sich mit jemanden zusammen, der sehr viel Erfahrung in Sachen Agilität hat und darin erfolgreich ist. Lernen Sie davon, welche Kenntnisse diese Person hat und vor allem wie sie agiert. Schauen Sie sich Kernelemente ab und adaptieren Sie diese für sich.

Regarding the skills to work with agility, I can mention communication skills, conflict resolution, collaborative work and self-organization. And remembering the agile principle “Individuals and interactions more than processes and tools”, it doesn’t mean that we don’t need tools and processes, but rather, using them in the best way possible, always keeping in mind that the most important thing is people.

These days there are so many tools used across organizations. My suggestion to be to pick up 1-2 of the most popular ones and then develop proficiency on them. Tools can anyways be learnt once you start using them. I would rather focus on what is/are the usage of the tool and then work on familiarizing with the relevant tool.

You need to know how to apply agility in practice. The theory is quite elegant on paper, but when it comes to people, the human talent for implementing agility in teams depends on practical knowledge. So, my recommendation is to bring in people who are experts in agility, to understand the company's reality, develop strategies and then gradually create an agile culture, from leadership positions to development teams.

Adapting to agile methodologies effectively involves seeking guidance and support from experienced individuals or communities well-versed in agile practices. Mentors, coaches, or peers can provide valuable insights into best practices and techniques, while networking through communities or forums facilitates idea exchange and problem-solving. By leveraging guidance and support networks, individuals can navigate the learning curve of agile with greater ease and minimize potential frustrations.

Another way is to seek guidance and support from others who have more real time field experience and expertise in Agile methodologies by joining forums, communities, Agile networking groups and find mentors, coaches, peers and get more insights about Agile methodologies.

Simple. Develop leadership skills. Make the teams self driving .. lead from behind.. Once you reach adjournimg stage from performing then go and work with another team and keep moving on. Scrum master might not be required for 20 years in the same team but making everyone in the team Masters of Scrum and agility in the short period based on your leadership skills.

In my journey from team lead to QA/QE Manager to Scrum Master, all under Agile’s banner, I’ve realized the need for adaptability in tech. Our formal education quickly becomes obsolete, yet, as Agile teaches us, change is not just inevitable but navigable. The growth mindset embraces change, making it enjoyable and desired. And constant feedback in a safe environment brings to light what improvements can be made on an ongoing basis.

Getting ahead in agile requires communicating your value and accomplishments effectively with your team, organization, and industry. Individuals can demonstrate their skills, knowledge, and contributions by delivering high-quality products, solving complex problems, and supporting their teams using agile methodologies. Insights and feedback emphasize their participation. The importance of documenting results, celebrating successes, and updating resumes and portfolios cannot be overstated. It's important to have in mind that Agile is just one way to do things, not the only way. Instead of just following Agile "rules" or frameworks, it's better to understand the ideas behind them and adjust as needed for each situation. That being said, I think professionals should prioritize upskilling in culture, organizational behavior, customer focus, communication, business and other relevant areas that will expand their scope of action and their ability to generate value for an organization
