What do you do if artificial intelligence replaces software testers in the future?

Rather than viewing AI as a threat, we can see it as a tool that can enhance our work. We can learn how AI operates within our domain and explore ways to integrate AI technologies into your testing processes to improve efficiency and accuracy

Well I can say manual efforts are always required, even to test AI for better output, & we all know, AI is the future.So in this case,I will invest my time in developing technical skills such as programming, data analysis, & machine learning concepts to better understand & work alongside AI technologies & I will shift focus towards user experience testing & user centric quality assurance practices as AI will automate rest.Ultimately,while AI may change the role of software testers, it is unlikely to replace the need for human testers entirely.QA brings a unique blend of skills, domain knowledge,& intuition that complement AI technologies, enabling organizations to deliver high-quality software products that meet user needs and expectations.

I believe that AI will take away much of the manual work that does not require human insights and analysis, which is why I believe that the great minds of testers have evolved into machine learning and also into data analysis aimed at elevating the testing task. . I believe that evolution and improvement must be part of all professions, today AI is the ghost of many, as systematization was in the past. The key word is to update and evolve.

In my opinion the most irreplaceable “human” aspect of testing is evaluating user experience, which involves empathy and understanding user psychology. AI struggles to replicate these human traits. It’s unlikely that AI can completely replace software testers. The future of software testing is going to be a collaborative effort between AI and human testers, with each leveraging their strengths to deliver high-quality software.

Additionally, honing skills in data analysis and interpretation would be beneficial, as AI-generated test results would require human insight for contextual understanding and decision-making. Continuous learning and adaptation to new technologies would be key to staying relevant and carving out a niche alongside AI in the evolving landscape of software testing.

As software testing evolves with technological advancements, contributing to the upskilling and reskilling of oneself and others is essential for staying relevant and thriving in the field. Here are some ways to contribute. * Personal Development: 1-Invest time and effort in expanding your skill set by learning new technologies, tools, and methodologies relevant to software testing. * Mentorship and Coaching: 1-Offer mentorship and coaching to junior testers or colleagues who are looking to upskill in specific areas of software testing. * Training and Workshops: 1-Organize training sessions or workshops within your organization or community to facilitate upskilling initiatives for testers at all levels.

Upskilling is not only limited to Tester & it also applies to AI. So, Tester & AI both need to get upskilled compare to the current skill set.

If AI would replace QA it would not happen immediately. Saying that, we, as QAs, should be flexible and shift our focus and mindset to nearest areas where human beings are more valuable, for example requirements creation and clarification, edge case testing, communication overall, where AI will be used as a tool. And we are going to be using AI on the initial stage as a tools to help us to perform QA duties on everyday basis. But in a long time roadmap in that possible future people most likely will not need to do technical stuff. For now better to focus on getting used to work with AI as a QA tool rather than thinking about possibility of human replacement. Nobody knows what could happen.

In my opinion, I don't think AI would replace members of a development team, remembering that AI was developed by humans, and is subject to failure, just like all software developed and implemented. There will always be continuous improvement work so that AI is increasingly accurate. We should use AI as our assistant in our daily lives and take advantage of its evolutions more and more.

As AI tackles routine tasks, focus on test planning, design, and user experience testing where human insight shines. Understanding user behavior remains invaluable as AI manages technical testing aspects.

Tester need to be more focused or can say excel in prompt engineering in order to provide input to AI then only AI provide fruitful results. Here, Tester will be actually working as a bridge between AI and required software deliverable based on the project.

Use Chatbots and VS Code AI Extensions to make your coding experience easier and simple. Instead of using google and stackoverflow we can use AI Chatbots to solve our issue in our code and also it will also improves our coding

You should cheer and be cautiously optimistic because you will get some time savings in your test cycle, as the boring part of your job is being automated, while you carefully check the results and coverage of the test cases executed!

Use the chatbots to make you more efficient. As an example, let's say you have a thousand XML files and need a new element or structure added to them all or a subset of them. Ask a chatbot to write the code for you. And then ask it how you run it if you don't know. Don't be afraid to embrace this technology. The mundane testing tasks that took days or weeks to accomplish can be done in hours or even minutes.

Instead of fearing AI, see it as a powerful ally, uniting your insights with AI efficiency to create an unbeatable synergy. By overseeing AI-driven tests, we can ensure they are aligned with your goals. Enable AI to process large data sets and run tests quickly, while you focus on interpreting results and providing crucial human insight into software quality. Autonomous drive cars still require quite a bit of human interaction. No matter how advanced you make them. Testers will still need to be there to ensure AI tests are on track. The "tester" role and skills will be modified a bit but still vital.

New roles are just the terminology based on the type of job. Better to have thorough understanding about the LLMs which needs to encounter while working with AI.

Stay updated on advancements in AI technology and its implications for software testing. Actively participate in training programs, workshops, and conferences to expand knowledge, network with industry experts, and adapt to changing trends and requirements.

Actually I disagree, not even automation has replaced testers, AI won't either. Even training AI will take long and testers will be required to do so.

Although artificial intelligence is increasingly powerful and sophisticated, I believe it is unlikely that it will completely replace software testers in the future. AI will handle repetitive tasks like hypothesis and regression testing, freeing testers to focus on more strategic areas like designing test strategies, exploratory testing, and collaborating with AI for a more efficient testing process. Software testers' skills will be even more valuable in the future as they become partners with AI to deliver high-quality software.

There will always need to be some manual testing completed, automation cant cover everything. Regression is the norm, but automation still needs to be manually updated to cover changes. Then there is exploritory testing, which cant really be done any other way.
