As you progress in your career, you’re bound to develop your own personal style of planning. It’s important to be open to the suggestions of your team members, clients or event volunteers. Even if they don’t have as much experience as you, problem solving should be a collaborative effort. Let’s face it: there’s no way you’ll be able to memorize and recall all the information necessary to plan for your event. Utilize tools and resources to aid in your planning process. Online platforms certainly have their place and allows us an easier way to connect and chat about what is happening right now. Working in events can be quite isolating, especially when doing so remotely, having the chance to connect and speak with others who can relate can be much appreciated and help to keep us in check. Human to human connection and being around others is woven into who we are, so let's embrace this and use the platforms we have such as forums to champion each other, show up for support and be able to ask questions, or for help when needed.

It's super important to always value learning and to continue to further your knowledge on certain elements of the industry. Challenging yourself to do 1-2 courses or trainings per year can be a great way to stay on top of education and make sure you're at the top of your game.

I've always had a passion for learning, and also sharing this knowledge with others. As we grow, learn and develop ourselves it's important to help others level up if they're open minded and willing to. Continued development can be based around our day to day roles, however I find that massive progress can be made by looking outside of our industries and seeking inspiration from other areas. This could be something to enhance our skills professionally, but at the same time it's important to grow personally. What hobbies could you learn more about or from someone more advanced that could teach you a thing or two? What has always fascinated you that you'd like to know more about? Industry publications are a great source of trends and what's happening within the industry. Some of my favourites are Campaign, WWD, Out Of Office and LSN!

Keeping a watchful eye over online publications, subscribing to newsletters and staying on top of the latest developments can make you better at what you do. It also helps when you're chatting to others about the industry, so you keep up to speed. Personally I've got emails from a handful of senders that I'll read through weekly, check out updates from Shop Drop Daily, browse posts from Out Of Office and also ask others where they get their info from. Seeing what other sites are shared, linked or referenced by connections on LinkedIn can assist in finding new, relevant sources

Technology has made our lives easier, especially when it comes to measuring, engaging and being able to produce quantifiable data in the events world. You can map dwell times, how and what people engage with and how shareable the activations are. Also you can lean on tech to carry out your event based follow up, distribute samples and increase brand loyalty.
