I found that often it is unbelievably valuable to take a 4-6 week break from raising / pitching and focus all energy on improving traction or your ability to demonstrate it (e.g. finally get those LoIs with interested clients signed). You end up having less meetings but the quality of those you have will improve.

Is your historically best quarter coming up, and you need capital to take advantage of it? Is there an increasingly viable competitor that new investment will help you beat? Is there a market trend that must be capitalized on right now?

I don’t think leveraging FOMO or offering exclusivity will anyhow help to move the deal forward. Investors are smart and they do understand sales game well. Usual sales tricks do not on them. And they don’t invest purely on logical reasoning. They have to believe in the founder. And you need to evoke the sense of being able to pull out the company no matter what, and that you will be able to build it with or without investment. Sometimes investors also look how persistent the founder is. So if you manage to come back to them with more updates it shows that you a) listen to their feedback b) make things work despite of their decision.

If VCs dont bite it is worth considering 1. Is there a reason for that. Ask the VC. Maybe the business is too capital intensive, not unique enough or something else. 2. Can self fund up to the next milestone and grow organically. Some businesses are not good for VC funding (won't be unicorns) but could be a viable business. Grow slower and have 100% of a smaller pie. Try another raise when you have established market fit.
