Additionally, express eagerness for ongoing learning and the refinement of your understanding of these concepts.

As a beginner in the industry, focus on the computer science fundamentals including data structures, Operating System basics, computer networking. Then read and understand the papers that changed the tech industry like Google search engine, map reduce, GFS, etc.

It would be useful to understand how it all started- what problems we were trying to solve, what are basic components involved in the whole process, concepts of 7 layers of communication , invent of internet and web servers and how we evolved in terms of tech stack.

I like to see someone sharing their personal GitHub repo. It's a great way to see where they were skill-wise at the time. It's also a good way to evaluate their communication skills as they should be able to explain the what/how of something they did on their own.

In my experience, ask few questions about the complete system and it's roadmap. For a new product or service start with POC and gradually move towards roadmap. Keep data security on priority.

I think when you lack "professional" experience on your resume you can make up for that with open source contributions. You build project based team work and communication in a similar environment to professional development and probably have a better awareness of prioritization and release cycles than most without contributor experience. Plus it's fun!

One thing i find it extremely important is ability to compartmentalize,meaning that you are able to break the system in smaller components. To improve your skill in this area; Familiarize yourself with standard tools and technologies in the market. Understand technology stacks, messaging systems, database engines, and programming languages. - You don’t need deep expertise in each tool; a surface-level understanding is valuable for compartmentalizing systems.

A good idea would be to create a project, where you can demonstrate your skills. Probably no better way to explain how you design it, show the decisions you took and justified them. And explain that you're still learning, but show your passion for improvement. That project (it could be the conceptual one, with some documentation showing the design), it's a starting point for a very good conversation. It has to be YOUR design, because you're gonna have to explain and defend your ideas. Be ready to amaze them!

Try to make a "click" with interviewer, as long as interview runs, they might get relaxed and act even as coworkers and not as interviewers and it might turn more into a dialog and story telling than interview
