If your organising, planning and scheduling was done properly ie you didnt miss anything,then short interval control or monitoring will help you identify where you are running late before you miss your deadlines and you have enough time to rectify and remain on track

If I found our energy engineers overwhelmed with looming deadlines, I would immediately prioritise tasks, focusing resources on critical milestones. I’d streamline processes by eliminating bureaucratic obstacles and reallocating personnel to maximise efficiency. First of all you did not do your homework correctly if you fund yourseld overwhelmed and in critical condition in the middle of the project. Before you even start to brake grown you have gone at least 3 times thru your overall plan, and identified and found solutions for the critical task. I mean, my take on 20+ years of PM.
