For a junior or inexperienced person the time a particular task may take may be a complete mystery. For example in a design project, the verification can take longer than the initial design. Braking the project into easily manageable blocks can help, prioritizing the tasks that are in the critical path. The right amount of support can lead to both a successful outcome and a rewarding experience for the younger team member. Clearly most of these actions are the same whether local or remote. Hence just because we are now working in the office does not mean the support should stop.

For many people working Remote releases extra hours a day, for me those hours were a longer work day, since I included my commute time as part of my day. In the remote world word of mouth is not really a thing, so be deliberate.

As managers of remote teams, we need to be even more available. Find ways to signal when you can be tapped for a quick chat or, alternatively, when your virtual door is closed. Then extend permission to the whole team to do the same for times when deep focus is needed.
