Log files are very useful to identify and solve software bugs, specially if the machine is already at production and you don't have the possibility of using a debugger. Another thing that can make a real difference is to save software inputs (i.e. in a computer vision application, original picture and input parameters, or ROSbag files) in a way that any operation can be run and debugged again in your own computer.
