If you are the leader you must hold people accountable for their bad decisions while always pushing them up with positivity so they continue to push for success. It's hard in today's society to launch a startup with so many young workers who have been raised in an entitled society. Leadership is the only absolute in the world of startups.

You can get as upset as you want about whatever you want, it's still not going to change the fact your all on the same sinking ship. Good startup teams can communicate and synchronize immediately when necessary. Do what it takes to stop the leak. Ask questions later.

If you hire experts, allow them to request what they need. This is not about daily fruit in the kitchen or specialty coffee. It is about tools AND processes! You can have an employee, proper set of tools, BUT if there is not a correct process in place, this person will get stuck. Communicate clearly your goals and requests to respective people, so they can ask for adequate resources. Try to be cost effective, the cheapest might not do, but the most expensive might not be that much better.

I've always thought if it this way. "Less Is More" "Sell Don't Tell" "what's Unique" . Listen to your team and I don't mean hear the words, I mean listen to the concerns. Be direct and always have the goal in sight. Treat everybody with the same respect you demand for yourself. Identify the toxic links and remove them fast.

Muitas vezes a equipe não arriscar por medo de tomar uma decisão que, se der errado, desagrade a liderança. Então a equipe se acomoda a somente obedecer, tornando-se reativa. Mas um líder com apetite a risco, mostrando que os fracassos também são ganhos porque significa aprendizado, e que estimula a equipe a também arriscar em propostas e tomadas de decisão, quebra essa tensão de risco.

This is a learning process within a startup. There are not as many fallback mechanisms as in a bigger company structure. Sometimes decisions just have to be made without a 100%knowledge base. Taking chances is what makes a startup tick. Taking chances is taking risks. And risks will not always be rewarded with a positive outcome. For me, this has to be something leadership needs to live up to. Leading by example means to make yourself vulnerable, to stand up for the risks gone bad - no matter if it was a risk I took personally or one I backed by team to take. It is to owning up to mistakes but also to jointly celebrate the ones that were worth taking - the ones that turned into real chances for the team and the company to grow with.

In software startups , it’s very important to pay attention to where team time goes. Innovation happens at the keyboard , not the meeting. And the CTO should be personally responsible for the team have super fast builds. At this stage you should have almost all engineers , and no test or ops. Good engineers can do that themselves, and they need focused time on task to drive innovation. Don’t discount build times. Again and again I’ve found slow builds made 10x faster through care and feeding. The whole team is happier and more productive when you do this work. And hey ! 10x more builds per day doesn’t just make the team faster - it makes them smarter - the longer i wait for my machine , the dumber I am :-).
