What do you do if you're a leader facing multiple options and need to make a decision?

As a leader, it's important to identity clean goals. Based on the goals, leaders need to consider the dynamic nature of decision making. Based on my experience, the most effective leaders adapt their leadership style based on the goal, the situation, the team needs while taking into consideration the perspective of all stakeholders. An inclusive approach ensures that the decisions made align with the values and goals of everyone involved, fostering a shared decision-making environment.

Identifying the right goals: Leaders must first crystallize their goals, aligning decisions with their vision and values. Common pitfalls include unclear objectives leading to decision paralysis and misalignment with long-term goals. To avoid these, leaders should ensure clarity of purpose and direct alignment with organizational objectives. Reflect deeply on how each option serves the broader mission, eliminating those that diverge. This focused approach not only streamlines decision-making but also fortifies leadership integrity and strategic direction.

When comparing/selecting options, I prefer to present my thought process to others. I select a council of three people whom I turn to for help evaluating options. I don't always select the same people. My council typically includes someone who thinks like me (my cheerleader), someone who doesn't (the devil's advocate), & someone who thinks unpredictably (the wild card).
