Hotel Managers must have skills in all departsments, they are the all rounder of the hotel. The go to solution keeper. Main keys will be to take Ownership, accountability and responsibility for the whole property overall. Must be able to be pro active and a quick thinker on the feet to find solutions if any problems occur. must be able to understand his team and make sure he lets them take ownership of their department by lead them if they are drifting away. always have transparent communication with the team and have the team supporting every action they make for the hotel. Despite all the years of experience many industry colleagues bring to the table, my observation has been that the number one resource to success (the employees) are often publicly recognized but scrutinized behind-the-scenes. One thing I have found out and the best way to move forward is learning how to do each job. with in a hotel so you better understand the challenges each department. And set out reasonable expectations to the roes having this gives you a better understanding of the roles of each team member.
